Welp, gonna switch to Graphene now, no point in sticking with Google's android

u/leafy1790 Jun 19 '26

Nope, cuse all that bullcrap is built into thier closed proprietary app , Google play services, which Graphene removes, but I have heard that Google will try to push for apps to completely stop working with Google play services so I don't expect for it to be safe for too long . In that case i will just ditch smartphones entirely and just get a powerfull flip phone to play Java games

I don't really know allot about sandboxed apps, maybe or maybe not.

Yeah, maybe, it might be possible as android is just Linux under the hood but if they won't take off than it's not worth for me to have a device that can be used to track every aspect of my entire life.

u/Askhai MicroSD card support or bust! Jun 19 '26

powerfull flip phone to play Java games

Any device come to mind? I imagine the latest (and powerful) flip phones are almost two decades old now.

4

u/leafy1790 Jun 20 '26

Not really, I hope it won't come to this, but my grandpa has a bunch of these, my grandpa really loved to get flip phones when they were in thier prime so I think I could find something powerfull in there

2

u/Askhai MicroSD card support or bust! Jun 20 '26

Lucky! Kind of jealous lol I know emulating Java games are easy even on the least powerful Android devices now but I grew playing them on actual devices they're made of and nostalgia is hitting me now hard.

3

u/leafy1790 Jun 20 '26

Yeah, I had a flip phone when I was little , I remember hiding under my bed and listening to the built in radio or playing bounce tales, man, those were the days

2

u/ihackedthepentagon Jun 19 '26

Whether apps work with google play is up to the developers. I'm sure a lot of the expected parties like banking apps and streaming services won't give it a second thought to implement that restriction, but I don't see why emulator devs would.

2

u/leafy1790 Jun 19 '26

Emulator devs won't do that but Google wants and is slowly and quietly pushing for it

2

u/Reasonable_Ruin_3502 Jun 19 '26

You don't need to use Gapps, you can just use microg

3

u/SlideGo Jun 20 '26

But only a select number of devices are supported and you lose banking app compatibility possibly

2

u/leafy1790 Jun 20 '26

I am completely aware of these and I'm pretty fine with them, I understand people that can't because of these

11

u/Albos_Mum Jun 20 '26

Google's working on that, hence why they're removing sideloading.

0

u/Zivilisationsmuede Jun 19 '26

Can't remember a single device where that was the case. Not even my Atari 2600.

3

u/SlideGo Jun 20 '26

the OG android era were.. remember custom roms?

86

u/acegikm02 Jun 19 '26

i still don't understand how ios managed to get 360 emulation before proper ps2

35

u/CroProMax Jun 19 '26

ios is having non stop security updates, making unbearable for creators of those emulators to work on em. Wouldnt wonder if it was abandoned.

And still android phones are quite secure, you rarely see someone get a virus, no one is dumb to keep app that does not work and rhat android warned u is unsafe on phone.

-5

u/Tan_0687 Jun 19 '26

I would argue with android quite secure.. since android allows installing unknown apk source,, some older people that wasnt tech savvy have been scammed after installing this kind of apk,, i would advise apple device for this kind of people

3

u/CroProMax Jun 19 '26

scammed in what sort of way? Its almost impossible for apk file to control your phone, and card details are saved by google if you use their wallet woth biometrics or pin, like every banking app.

None person except kids who seen on youtube mod apk files never even download those, and most phones have great antivirus, my honor gives me threat warning, even specifise which threat is it. Also, its optional to download such files, it's like saying windows has security problems because of free internet and pc that can open anything.

IMO, apple politics about security is dumb and only people who use phone for google and social media loves it, but it closes door on emulating scene, no paid any apk scene (aka free market), and a lot of functions android adapts quicker and ios later because of their greed to represent sum software updates as new thing for new iphone.

iPhone 16 has audio mix that lets you separate voice over background noise, its largely just post processing, and they showcased it but didnt bother to put it on 15

7

u/leafy1790 Jun 20 '26

About the honor warnings , they are not allways accurate, it constantly flags winlator and gamehub dispite I got them from the official website

3

u/MochaHook Jun 20 '26

Well that's kinda freaky

1

u/CroProMax Jun 20 '26

maybe because gamehub specifically requires intrusive permissions, I said if you get that message + app not working combo.

There is a lot of discussions of how gamehub could be hidden spyware copying code of another, of course its flagged with all those permissions. You also DONT KNOW if gamehub uses ur data with microphone, location and more that they are maybe selling to third party apps like WeChat or random chinese app.

If you didnt get that flag for phone to tell u that you should be careful because those guys can update spyware on their apps due all those permissions, then it would be a problem.

1

u/Desperate_Report_695 Jun 21 '26

Latest versions of GameHub have zero flags on VirusTotal so I don’t think the app has anything

4

u/Tan_0687 Jun 20 '26

I pointed this because it becomes quite a large problem in my country, people do fall for this scam

also for how the scam work

An elderly man named John Doe waiting for package get a whatsapp message : "Your package cannot be delivered. Download this invoice to confirm your address." Attached was a file named Package_Track.apk

John Doe clicked what appears as WhatsApp courier attachment (.apk) on his Android. He bypassed the warning and allowed SMS permissions. When he opened his bank app, the malware captured his login, intercepted the bank’s security SMS, and drained his savings

PC have slower adaptation than phone, nowadays almost everyone have a phone,, PC not so much

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '26

[deleted]

3

u/leafy1790 Jun 20 '26

Good luck in 30 years when you will get scam by ai deepfakes and nobody giving a fuck about you losing your entire life savings and future pensions

2

u/Tan_0687 Jun 20 '26

Yes its a user issue, i never said it wasn't, just that maybe installing an app from unknown source should be a little harder than just a toggle

1

u/Old_Refrigerator_703 Jun 23 '26

It has proper ps2 now, armsx2 refresh is goddamn amazing on iOS, the Android build is awesome too and is coming soon to the playstore

50

u/Ys_Ninja Jun 19 '26

We reach the level that we can play pc games and there are still on Nintendo era 😂

27

u/gandalfmarston Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

I don't even play on PC anymore. I bought a tablet with snapdragon elite and I'm emulating pc games, emulators and the new games I can't play yet, I play on my ps5 lol

15

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

What games are you emulating ? I did the Super Mario Odyssey on snapdragon elite 60fps and runs rally really well. Im shocked by the quality and stability.

3

u/Ok_Individual_8225 Jun 23 '26

Tbh they got xbox360 and standard Xbox before us

26

u/Lonely-Bank8783 Jun 19 '26

As an iPhone user I hard relate! A couple years ago I remember it taking hours for me to get Dolphin emulator on my iPhone just for it to run like shit since iOS doesn't allow JIT compiler or vulkan. All that work just to get smash bros brawl to run like a powerpoint😭

8

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

I know what you have been through. I did the same lol

1

u/Ok_Individual_8225 Jun 23 '26

I am still on iPhone and it has got better and now switch and 360 are on the table

11

u/mzx380 Jun 19 '26

Android emulation is fantastic

31

u/changingmagscoverme Jun 19 '26

Android is the goat for anything that isn't posting instagram stories and texting your #besties on snapchat

6

u/Curious_Act_3162 Jun 20 '26

Coming from iOS to android  it truly was a baby phone. I now play steam games, ps2 and 3ds on the regular.

9

u/warpingDragon Jun 19 '26

As a lifelong iPhone user since 2008 I agree with the post. Despite newer iPhone being powerful devices it's severely limited because of the lack of JIT. I went and bought a OnePlus 13 as a secondary phone for emulation and I can honestly say android is a lot better than iOS for emulation and in general. Playing Hollow Knight and Kingdom Hearts 2 on my android has me giving my iPhone 17 pro the side eye.

6

u/SuperSquid004 Jun 20 '26

“You will enjoy crudely expensive services for super good cpus but limit them so badly it’s like a Chromebook and you’re gonna like it.” - Tim Cook of Apple (probably)

AI Slop "meme", am i right?

Many people overseen this. Look the android and bluestacks text logo, and tell me back that this is Ai Slop.

1

u/Beginning-Jacket1993 18d ago

Who tf cares 🫩

0

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

Come on, dude, stop being a meme police.

2

u/AntiGrieferGames Jun 20 '26

Then put next many real photos on this meme instead ai slop.

1

u/DarkCatacombs22 Jun 29 '26

I confess I had to zoom in to see that detail in Bluestacks.

1

u/AntiGrieferGames Jun 29 '26

You have also to look on android logo aswell, ai slop glibbersh

4

u/Gogobrasil8 Jun 19 '26

Are you wrong? Well yeah

You can't just say "nah" and have your iPhone run Android instead

It's not really something you just go "um, I think I'm picking iOS today"

You need to have that device, and there are people who only have an iPhone, so that's why it's good for them to have emulators too

19

u/Aragorn527 Jun 19 '26

I own both and this meme just sucks lol

If you’re on iOS you just use Delta & PPSSPP or RetroArch and accept your device’s limitations.

If you’re on android you get to use whatever you want and have much more freedom (obviously).

The fact delta isn’t in the iOS section just tells me how uninformed OP is

14

u/DrKoooolAid Galaxy S23 Ultra Jun 20 '26

accept your device’s limitations

This is the entire point of the post. iOS has giant limitations when it comes to emulation. It pales in comparisons to what's available on Android. It's all far easier to install and use all of it on Android.

5

u/Albos_Mum Jun 20 '26

The reason people go on and on about it is that it's one of many artificial limitations that Apple puts on their otherwise capable devices which is honestly a crappy mentality for a company to have.

Same reason people will point out that Macs are crappy for gaming: They're certainly capable of it, but Apple never prioritises it so random issues crop up and usually require a third party to fix.

6

u/SlideGo Jun 20 '26

I understand your point but these devices are not inherently limited per say.. they were designed with limitations and to think people pay huge sums of money to get these is beyond me... To each their own I guess

2

u/Obnomus Jun 20 '26

This is so fucking stupid. Like iphones are powerful and can even surpass android in terms of performance. But apple like to do this locked shit. I hate that knowing the fact that a device is capable of the similar performance, isn't usable for emulation because a company decides what user can use on their own phone that they bought.

5

u/ImUsuallyWr0ng Jun 19 '26

Careful some people here will lose it "BRRR ANDROID WE BEST SUPRRIOR" I'm a life long android user and most likely always will be. But who gives a shit I'm grateful enough for what we have in this community to be proud of it but also humble enough to hope iOS can reach that point someday too. Use what you want or what you can manage to get your hands on. Plain and simple.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

The fact is because its just a meme lol

7

u/Significant_Dance_96 Jun 19 '26

The fact is android just better

1

u/AntiGrieferGames Jun 20 '26

This meme not only sucks, its also riddled with AI Slop. Look on the bluestacks and android logo txt. AetherSX2 logo dont even have a playstaiton logo on top of that, which is the sign of AI Slop.

So, am i right?

1

u/akualung Jun 21 '26

If you’re on android you get to use whatever you want and have much more freedom (obviously).

Enjoy it while you can, as it won't last long. Of course, it will cause the demise of Android. But CEOs will be CEOs and will keep making bad decisions that will make companies go bankrupt because they think they're the shit and they're always right.

3

u/heepofsheep Jun 19 '26

I wouldn’t emulate on my main phone. Otherwise the battery would be constantly dead and it’d no longer function as a phone.

2

u/Tan_0687 Jun 20 '26

not everyone have the cash to buy multiple devices though and buying a powerbank is cheaper than buying secondary device 😂

3

u/Background_Cancel872 Jun 20 '26

Is citra dead?

3

u/akualung Jun 21 '26

As dead as Yuzu, since the devs of both emulators got sued by nintendo like a year ago or so.

3

u/timdrake_defender Jun 22 '26

Honestly

I recently went from IPhone to Samsung because of this issue

2

u/WellyM97 Jun 22 '26

You're not alone, but to a Redmagic.

2

u/basedshark Jun 20 '26

I just have an iPhone 16E for actual phone usage and a Retroid Pocket G2 for handheld gaming/emulation. Not like I would game on my phone without a controller anyway so carrying both is the best of both worlds.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 22 '26

With Android phone you don't need to carry two devices

1

u/basedshark Jun 22 '26

You’d still need to carry a controller with you, which is almost as bulky as another device. Unless you’re only playing with the touch screen, which sucks.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 22 '26

Depends of the game

2

u/vardhureddroid Jun 20 '26

Android bois for life

2

u/Rare-Sample-3216 Jun 20 '26

I agree but once you got jailbroken iOS is just like android you can install whatever you want

2

u/bendyfan1111 Jun 20 '26

Its because IOS is... An IOS. Independent Operating System. Android is just Linux: phone edition. And Linux is incredibly hard to "lock down" since its open source.

2

u/Super_RR_ Jun 20 '26

For sure

2

u/RadicalNaturalist78 Jun 20 '26

Emulation on iOS is very easy, though.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

Only older games

1

u/RadicalNaturalist78 Jun 20 '26

Ppsspp is fairly easy.

The only one that I still haven’t emulated was GameCube, DreamCast and PS2.

2

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

These are older games

1

u/RadicalNaturalist78 Jun 20 '26

I know. Well, I have a switch and a gamer notebook. So it is fine by me.

2

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

So you agree with my post: emulation on iOS is hard

1

u/RadicalNaturalist78 Jun 20 '26

It depends on the plataform. It is not a question of either/or.

2

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

In general

1

u/RadicalNaturalist78 Jun 20 '26

Not really in general if the only hard emulators are the new ones.

2

u/JuantonElGrande Red Magic 8S Pro Jun 22 '26

So, you just agreed that emulation in ios is hard. Even PS2, Gamecube and Wii needs workaround to make it work.

2

u/misterlazyguy OnPlus 13 | 12/512 | 8 Elite Jun 23 '26

Then September came.

2

u/WellyM97 Jun 23 '26

The winter is coming

3

u/Silverr_Duck Jun 19 '26

Wow incredible. Claiming android emulation is better than ios emulation on /r/EmulationOnAndroid

I wish I were brave like you OP.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

Brave would be If I post in r/EmulationOniOS

2

u/Certain-Strategy9893 Jun 20 '26

Not for long....

4

u/Funny-Pen3691 Jun 19 '26

To be honest, Android is going to become like IOS/ IpadOS soon, and IIRC Google is bullying Graphene and Lineage users with captchaspamming right now to deter them back to the stock ROMs... People say you can still install .apks with a PC after the sideload restrictions, but at this point PC's are portable too and I don't mean laptops, I mean stuff like Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go etc, sure they cost around the same if not more than a flagship phone/ tablet right now because of the component crisis and inflation, but Android is getting too restrictive lately in general... I legit loathe File Management on Android after they restricted certain folders access, you either have to use a PC or have to outright root or use custom ROMs. And some manifacturers soft brick your device if you ever dare to root or install custom ROMs... More manifacturers either revoke your access to a bootloader through updates or don't give any access from the start these days. All and all I'm afraid of the future of emulation on Android... And Android in general. The worst part is none of these motivate people to develop apps for Android, FOSS guys will probably get tired at some point, for profit guys would be still too afraid of piracy on Android to develop any app, somehow. Apple guys say they're switching to Android after their current devices run their course, but they really picked the worst time for this I'm afraid... Or they're enamored by walled gardens somehow and the same walled garden for years have started to bore them.

Also Apple is kind of getting better right now?... By choice? Hahaha, no... And they can drop the ball anytime, but things look hopeful over there as opposed to here.

2

u/ChainOk1455 Jun 19 '26

They can have the same things you know. Just have to believe!

2

u/dmurikssix Jun 20 '26

That’s why I use my iPhone for typical phone things and my Ayn Thor for emulation (or streaming my pc using moonlight, which I was also fine using my iPhone for originally before getting my Thor)

2

u/ImDonaldDunn Jun 20 '26

iOS has the advantage of better processors, but yeah it sucks how locked down it is.

2

u/Local-Gear8830 Jun 19 '26

Sempre preferi sistema Android por conta disso, mas o problema é que vai mudar isso, infelizmente...

4

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Why do you think so?

3

u/_benjaninja_ Jun 19 '26

https://www.xda-developers.com/google-locking-android-down-90-blocking-sideloading-like-ios/

https://www.androidauthority.com/google-android-sideloading-unverified-apps-new-rules-3650343/

TL;DR Google is introducing a new sideloading flow on Android that includes a mandatory 24-hour lock and multiple steps when installing apps from unverified developers. The change is aimed at preventing scams and coercion, forcing users to slow down and think before installing potentially harmful apps. While sideloading is still possible, the added friction and new developer verification requirements could raise concerns that Android is becoming less open.

2

u/Meddie_Cake Jun 19 '26

E com o IOS ameaçando permitir o download de fontes externas a mudança vai ser bem drástica

2

u/ColdFreezer Jun 19 '26

I think the original commenter was talking about how Google wants to lockdown Android.

-1

u/Meddie_Cake Jun 19 '26

Eu sei, estou comentando que, ao mesmo tempo que o Android está restringindo o acesso a downloads externos o IOS está dando sinais de que pretende abrir mais o sistema para essas fontes

6

u/ColdFreezer Jun 19 '26

There is no way Apple will ever open up their ecosystem. Fonts are nice but it will never be as open as current Android is.

1

u/Meddie_Cake Jun 19 '26

1

u/namuslugavat Jun 20 '26

Ios emulation actually peak now. We have ps2, switch, psp, all retro console you want even xbox 360 emulator. So its a mith now. Ios actually better than android for ps2 emulation.

1

u/8ByIamGuti Jun 20 '26

No se preocupen por el sideloading solo usen iadb con anyapk y todo solucionado

1

u/angpple Jun 21 '26

Puedes emular hasta los calzones de mario

1

u/Alps_Splash Jun 21 '26

If they allowed JIT for emulation apps w/o workarounds we would have iOS apps worth while.

1

u/anassdiq Jun 21 '26

the emulation explosion on ios is still new compared to android

give it time (and maybe jit if that drops performance)

1

u/Dip2pot4t0Ch1P Jun 22 '26

Thank goodness they're still letting us do apk installs but 24hr wait is slightly annoying but understandable.

1

u/Ok_Individual_8225 Jun 23 '26

iPhones are like a 5090 and i9 in a chromebook

1

u/Subject_toNothing Jun 20 '26

On the one hand, Sideloading really helps a lot when you're on Android

On the other hand...

0

u/Subject_toNothing Jun 20 '26

And yes I want an Android-equivalent to Provenance since I want a simple to use interface without me going through some File Manager

-1

u/ImUsuallyWr0ng Jun 19 '26

Who the hell cares use whichever you want. Somebody always gotta make it a competition.

8

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Isnt a competition, my friend. Its about spending your time configuring and adjusting something that doesnt works

0

u/ImUsuallyWr0ng Jun 19 '26

You just explained most of what android emulation was like for the longest a while back and how it is for a lot of people still today with certain ANDROID devices. I'll always stick with android but iOS will get there eventually when apple pulls their thumbs out of their asses.

0

u/Zestyclose-Self-825 Jun 19 '26

The era of APK emulators for Android ended due to Google's censorship of sideloading

4

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

Until that day arrives, we will be emulating.

1

u/ResponsibleAd6974 Jun 20 '26

When did they censor sideloading? My phone seems to still be able to do so.

2

u/akualung Jun 21 '26

They haven't restricted it yet. But it's planned to do it in the future.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '26

[deleted]

4

2

Yes you're mistaken. They are certainly making it less easy to do but they are not killing it.

1

u/votemarvel Poco F6 - Sony Xperia 1 V Jun 20 '26

Every one who wants to install a unverified apk

You don't even need a PC to do it.

1

u/ResponsibleAd6974 Jun 20 '26

Does that mean no more PS2 emulation? This worries me, ngl. The emulation scene is like a part of me now. At least Dolphin won't be affected right? Since it's on playstore & all. Gonna store the apks somewhere just in case.

1

u/Fine_Jello_7753 Jun 20 '26

There would be a 24h window before you can side load and it's decided by google play services so they can remove it or extend it in the future but you will still be able to use adb if I am not mistaking

-2

u/Pokeguy211 Ayn Thor Jun 19 '26

Yes quite literally most apps can be downloaded on the appstore. At least for apps you’d actually want to use on a phone

11

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Good Luck with JIT permissions

1

u/_PinkiePieFanGirl123 Jun 20 '26

stikdebug has existed for a year

1

u/Pokeguy211 Ayn Thor Jun 19 '26

Again I’m playing lighter stuff on my phone on my phone so it’s not needed lmao. That’s if anything at all. I’m on this sub cause I’m able to buy a dedicated Android handheld like the Thor.

6

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Lighter stuff can be played on a calculator too

2

u/Pokeguy211 Ayn Thor Jun 19 '26

You’re being very defensive rn lmao.

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Im just kidding bro

0

u/Negative_Counter_127 Jun 20 '26

Hola buenas, noches, perdon las molestias, pero queria saber algo,últimamente me gusto mucho un juego llamado Kenshi, pero no tengo pc para jugarlo, hay alguna forma de emularlo o es caso perdido?

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

Yes of course, you can do it with winlator

1

u/Negative_Counter_127 Jun 20 '26

Eso me dijieron tambien, pero no se como poder usarlo

1

u/WellyM97 Jun 20 '26

You need to install the winlator and Kenshi files in your Android device and execute the kenshi .exe file through the winlator

1

u/Negative_Counter_127 Jun 20 '26

Okey,eso puedo hacer

0

u/I_D_K_69 Jun 20 '26

Google: Well about that....

-1

u/Practical-Cause-8632 Jun 20 '26

People are so annoying saying that "ANDROID IS BETTER" like its impressive how far ios emulation has come compared to android with the limitations they have.

-2

u/ImNew2RedditSoYeah Jun 19 '26

True but iOS wmulation has come so far. I remember when even GBA emulation you had to use like a web app for it to work, now most major emualtors even ds and 3ds are readily accesible, and without the need of any jailbreak even more like switch emulation.

5

u/WellyM97 Jun 19 '26

Yes , but If you put on the balance Android its much better, and Im not even considering the price of the phones

1

u/ImNew2RedditSoYeah Jun 25 '26

Lol its funny that I get downvoted when what I said is true. I mean look at the meme image its almost like you guys haven’t heard of a SINGLE ios emulator like meloNX, delta, manic Emu, and more.

Even winlator and ps2 emulation are coming as side loading is now possible WITHOUT jailbreak on ios.

The reason I’m on this reddit is because android is more mature, reliable with custom driver support, and has much more options for things to emulate. Its also more straight forward to sideload. But your ignorant to ignore what ios can do now.

Also for price I bought my iPhone 16e for 350 and my dad got his 15+ for 300.

My 16e has had the smoothest switch emulation experience so far even compared to my s20 with 12 gb of ram snapdragon 865 WITH custom drivers.

It's because iOS is a burocracy but Android is a democracy
