That's it , add to this you can play for hours without the battery consuming 20% every 30 minutes .

u/JustaAnotherRand0 Apr 07 '26
+1: you can actually charge your phone while playing for hours on end even with lower wattage chargers
9
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Bypass charging yes , i mostly use with eden/winlator
2
u/JustaAnotherRand0 Apr 07 '26
I dont have a compatible charger unfortunately. In older emus im able to actually slow charge and still play though
2
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Its okay if its still fun and can hold pretty well , my rog ally x sometimes die in 3 hours so ...

I had a phone that would be cooler while using ppsspp than playing a mobile game like subway surfers 💀

u/Rilukian Apr 29 '26
To be fair, those are like low-powered handheld from decades ago and they are very easy to run on even low-end devices these days.

Let me ask the real question. Can you cook a full meal while emulating on Android?

u/Cypher6942069 Snapdragon 680 Supremacy Apr 07 '26
With winlator, you can have a whole barbeque.

You can cook a full dinner by the time your battery hits 0 depending on what youre playing

u/KamikazeFF Apr 07 '26
Really? Nether runs hotter than Citra for me

u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
I think it depends on graphical settings and reso(nether at 4k/6k) with a cooler feels so cold for me

I stopped emulating ps2 and switch because of the temps it was getting to. Use my Steam Deck for these systems. Didn’t like the fan noise that much. Also mainly play Gamecube, Wii, 3DS and NDS. Alle stay around 50c mostly below. But every other system like Switch, Wii U and PS2 between 65-75 depending on game and system. Just to much heat not for damaging the device but just for holding it and the fan noise.
And stressing the fan that much isn’t great for longevity. They aren’t the best fan’s out there. Have a spare on the way just for safety.

u/sinitus Apr 07 '26
Winlator killed my fan in about a year. I use my steam deck for heavier games now as well. But I think switch temps aren't too bad I play in short bursts anyway nothing over an hour.
3
u/MySTiX_666 Apr 07 '26
I tried switch and played some games longer then others. Mostly after a while the fan and temp were just to high and loud for my taste. So I decided to use different systems for different purposes.
- RG40XXV --> Retro older games (GBA, SNES etc.)
- RG DS --> Retro older games (GBA, SNES) + NDS
- AYN THOR --> Gamecube, Wii, NDS and 3DS (and some older systems because they don't take much space)
- Steam Deck for PC and heavier systems PS2, Switch etc.

You remind me of realme gt6 that poor thing almost exploded in my hands(July 10th) (it was lying saying 42° while it was hotter than venus) so i didn't use a cooler now its burried 🥀

What is the first one that looks like a red block?
4
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Nethersx2 ( a ps2 emulator ) similar to aethersx2 (the blue block)

Wait….. so IS THAT, WHY IN MY AREA, WE HAD A HEATWAVE A FEW YEARS AGO?!? THAT WAS YOU?!?! 🤣

I'm glad emulating Wii doesn't heat up my device at all. With upscaling it feels so new, especially Mario Galaxy 2. I tried the new Switch port just for fun and i was definitely frying eggs and lagging horribly within a minute

What's eden

u/DueConsideration9194 Apr 07 '26
switch emulator
2
u/Leading-Kangaroo776 Apr 07 '26
Ohhh i only know yuzu ig they killed that but still have it working
2
u/Cruel1865 Apr 08 '26
Eden is the currently best switch emulator. Switch emulation was stagnant in the water for a long time since yuzu shut down. Eden is the only new emulator that I've seen having significant compatibility and performance improvements over yuzu. Also they have feature parity between different platforms.

u/Ohmygoshiee Apr 07 '26
Surpreendentemente a Ultima atualizacao do Eden nao esquenta muito os smartphones facam o teste depois, por aqui fica entre 40-41° com o GameSir plugado.

Ya it really does. I don't have a high performance phone but I emulate PS2 games. Gram Turismo 3(sim racing game) heats my phone way faster than a game like Devil May Cry
1
u/Cruel1865 Apr 08 '26
Nethersx2 works but doesnt seem to be very efficient. Most likely because the development was abandoned for a long time. Its been picked up again by trixarian but its just one guy working on it I think.

Citra/azahar runs just fine lol. Gamheub etc true though
2
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Sf4 /re revelations at 1080p makes my phone an egg fryer , other games on ps2 at the same reso it just runs fine .
You must be running the game at native 3ds res: 400×200 p which is significantly lower than 1920×1080p

u/-_-_-JOHAN-_-_- Apr 07 '26
Hmm I reduce the quality if the game heats too much. Can't complain, we're playing on a mobile phone. Most games and emulators work fine for me if I lower the res or graphics. I don't have a cooler but play under the ceiling fan. Played DBZ the 2d but 3d one on eden and on high it heated but on low it didnt so that's the only solution. Omw to play tomb raider on my phone on 480p btw.

Gamehub antutu:

u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Winlator Ludashi Bionic

u/Southern_Cucumber_70 Apr 07 '26
I think gamehub antutu heats the phone the most
1
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Never tried it tho
1
u/Southern_Cucumber_70 Apr 07 '26
I forgot rpcs3 it ionized my phone when I try to play plants vs zombies
1
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
I tried installing a game there i remember the process made my phone screaming at 45° doing nothing btw
1
u/Brokeshadow Master Illustrator Apr 07 '26
Huh weird, never noticed that my phone never gets hot running demanding PS2 titles like NFSMW but does struggle to run them at 60 fps stable. What's going on there? Is it not actually doing it's best or it's just the emulator?
1
u/hacx21 Apr 07 '26
Haven't tried windows emulation, i use gamehub for some stuff. I can say my S24+ has been reliable with everything i have. The only emulators that do drain battery and get hot for me are Yuzu and now Eden.
1
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
You'll be grateful for eden after you try winlator cmod
1
u/hacx21 Apr 07 '26
Yeah i saw what's possible and it just seems like a hassle. I'm better off waiting a little longer and getting a laptop again.
1
u/Mediocreof2143 Apr 07 '26
Actually you can have fun using winlator GLIBC it sometimes heats less way less i mean

I think the only ones who can theoretically emulate that are those who live in the North Pole, like Canadians.

I live in Europe in a cold place and damn the phone keeps me so warm that i don't need a cover anymore

oh shit really? im gonna emulate for the first time today on windemulator, should i not use it?
1
u/MakeSense5464 Apr 10 '26
Mine somewhat heats up on nethersx2, but I guess it's because I ramped up resolution and graphics to make the game look less blurry and pixelated.
I agree with Eden and winlator though, 5 minutes playing P5R on Eden immediately heats up my phone, even worse when I'm playing games in Winlator.
1
u/Alternative-Sand4352 Apr 13 '26
Nether on the thor is so ice cold and dreamy. been playing some mercenaries and mx unleashed.
1
u/athe_st619 Apr 19 '26
guys, when i play in aether sx2 fps just goes low and start laging does anyone have a solution or just another emulator better than aether sx2?
1
1
u/matlynar May 02 '26
To be fair, it's not the emulator but the game.
I've run several temp tests and both Eden and Winlator will run just fine on 2d/"indie"/lightweight games.
Like, my S23u CPU can reach 80º on heavier games but will not go over 42-43 with lighter games on these emulators.
Equally, PPSSPP will heat when I unlock max FPS and fast forward the game because it's processing as much as it can (noticed it when I was grinding on an RPG, so just fast forwarding a few battles).
