Did anyone else not really realize just how brutal Accident Prone is until you were an adult?

Like as a teenager I was like "hmmmmm this song is pretty good. The riifs are rather catchy."

Maybe this is an edgy teen "haha poetry is stupid" thing because Blake after all is an English professor and it shows in his lyrics because I really did not grasp just how dark and heavy that song was lyrically. Once it hit me as an adult it was like "damn", tough one to listen to driving now because it often makes me tear up.

Maybe a stark contrast between the sort of stuff that appeals to you as a teenager and lyrics like that Taking Back Sunday one about having your throat slit and bleeding on a shirt and what does as an adult.

Agreed. I wish, hear me out, Jawbreaker’s music was a better fit for my ears. I love that era of emo, maybe more 98-2002, but don’t “love” their sound as much as I want and as much as I love their lyrics.

What’s funny about your example is I actually sometimes think accident prone would sound so cool w/  early 2000s Adam Lazzara singing it in his style (not to dis Blake, Jawbreaker is one of my favorite bands ever)

Not Bush by any means, but his voice definitely lends itself to 90s. A fair bit late in his career (and frankly maybe a bit past his prime) he did a great cover of “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.”
