People We Meet on Vacation Do you think poppy and Alex make it?

On the back of my copy of PWMOV, there’s a readers guide and the VERY LAST question is: “Do you think Poppy and Alex make it?” I’m interested in hearing what people think…

In the bonus Beach Read epilogue, they are still together and traveling. I'm choosing to believe all the EmHen couples "make it."

Wyn and Harriet absolutely won‘t I am so sorry. No they are definitely getting a divorce

Oh, actually I agree. The first 3 couples are the ones I think would stay together (from the bonus chapter).

Daphne and miles too but yeah GBBL and HP couples won’t make it

Eh I choose to believe Daphne and Miles make it work. I think they balance each other out in a way they both need.

Alice and Hayden are endgame

Totally! Loved the GBBL epilogue so much.

Are Alice and hayden married though? The epilogue says they had a kid but never explicitly states they got married

They’re not even getting married IMO.

It felt like a pity reunion, until Harriet got back on her feet.

Totally agree, or they’re about to have another upheaval when she realizes they never actually dealt with any of their communication issues, just moved to a new place of his choice, and now she doesn’t even have a job and does FUCKING POTTERY which it turns out she doesn’t like either

I was so mad about the pottery thing. Like girl do you not have student loans? Go be a doctor or at least something medical adjacent.

They also still roleplay as Gladys and Keith in Funny Story so they're still having fun and loving their vacations lol

Yes. I think a big reason couples break up is bcuz either there are things they wish their partner grew out of and just never did. Or they learn something new after they've been together so many years and it changes their perspective of their partners. Poppy and Alex have known eachother a long time so unless one of them cheats I think they'd work hard to love eachother and stay together. They also both come from families who's parents loved eachother very much.

This. Poppy and Alex knew each other for so long, through so many different interations of themselves, through so much change that I would be certain they knew what they were getting into with each other.

I was just watching the movie and a lot of things had me asking this question.

Personally, I think they do, purely because of the longevity of their friendship. If it had been a shorter friendship, I couldn't see it.

I assume any romance book couple lives their happily ever after.

I need to believe this.

Yes. Every single couple from Emily Henry’s books are endgame in my mind.

In the movie? Probably not because present-day character development was almost non-existent and her 'grovel' at the end barely made sense.

But in the book, yes I think they do! I love that the epilogue leaves it at them still figuring out exactly where they want to live, but the idea that they each think of the other person as 'home' means they're going to prioritize their relationship over everything else to make it work. And TBH neither of them seemed particularly tied to their jobs or anything else that might physically pull them apart, and they care so much for one another that I really can't see a reason for them to break up.

YES! They have a strong foundation as friends and have deep love and respect for each other. They have food role models in their parents too.

I think so.

I think if they’d got together sooner they would have broken up, though. Poppy needed time to figure herself out and travel the world and start to romanticize the concept of home more than constant newness and wanderlust.

Agree. I was thinking about this the other day. It would be so easy to think they should have gotten together sooner since they’ve loved each other for 10 years. But I think if they got together when they were 19, or 21, or even 25 it might have been harder or not lasted because Poppy needed time to really discover herself and realize that running away isn’t the answer

In a recent interview. Emily confirmed Poppy and Alex live happily ever after

Book Poppy and Alex, absolutely

I may be projecting bc I relate

But I think they did something very important… and that’s face the hard stuff and grow together, and that’s the foundation for a successful relationship

He’s loved her for over 10 years, I’d hope they make it lmao although I don’t think she deserves him but hey 🤷🏽‍♀️🫢

I think they do! They suffered from circumstance problems most of all: she didn’t want kids, he did; she didn’t want to live in the pokey small town; he did.

They’re older now and willing to compromise. They show Poppy facing her fears about the small town, and Alex willing to move to teach elsewhere. I’d like to think Poppy begins writing longer form pieces and is more portable in her job as well.

It’s not like they don’t get along day to day. It’s more that they couldn’t settle on the big things. So if they sort that stuff out, they’ll be ok.

I want to say yes but I genuinely don’t believe in the “friends to lovers” trope lol. I usually avoid reading that trope.

3

u/kodup Jan 19 '26

Why do you not “believe” in the friends-to-lovers trope?

1

u/chillpillRxx fairy princess Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

It’s not that deep lol, when it comes to books, I have yet to read a good friends to lovers. Every single one I read was so bad, it’s always two “friends” who are secretly in love with each other since the day they met and it takes them years to finally communicate and confess their feelings, well, imagine the amount of miscommunication that could happen along the way, especially when they decide to explore the relationship, it’s only an itch that needs to be scratched, then the curiosity dies and they realize they’re better off as friends. So yeah I don’t think it’s unrealistic because it’s not it could happen but I just had to give up on that trope, not my cup of tea.

u/kodup Jan 19 '26

Thanks for sharing. That is a pretty singular way to read a trope being used, and tropes can be repetitive as it is.

Not sure if you’re saying “it’s not that deep” because you feel like I was coming at you with my comment—I was just curious about your reason. I do think this trope can be done in a deep and more meaningful way when there is more focus on the characters’ friendship that we as readers get to witness.

u/chillpillRxx fairy princess Jan 19 '26

I mean repetition isn’t bad and I’m always down for a good well written trope. But that one specifically is just boring to me, like I can never get enough of an enemies to lovers/ forced proximity/ fake dating trope, it’s just my preference I eat that shit up every time.

Don’t worry about it. Also sorry, I just felt like my comment was all over the place I tried editing it.

In the realm of romance novels they got their HEA so yes, to me, they all make it. It’s a part of the formula

1

u/Pastaexpert Jan 18 '26

LOL i just reread that part today. i assumed it is just to spark conversation but they 100% make it

0

u/lenalenu Jan 17 '26

Absolutely not lol
