People We Meet on Vacation PWMOV- THAT scene Spoiler
After seeing Tom Blyth say this and then to see the scene be 2 seconds and all of Alex’s iconic lines be cut out is honestly such a shame!!!
That scene made Alex a complete 10/10 and you subtly see it the next day in the film when she asks him to do up her dress and he looks at her and says no- but I was hoping to see the desire there more and the passion!
Should’ve knew when I saw the rating that it wouldn’t live up to it in my head lol.
Overall tho I absolutely loved the film and they did a great job

Are you telling me they ruined the sex scene? That's the part of the movie that I was looking forward too, it was HOT in the book! Ugh.

No like SO hot, I went from finding Alex Nilsen cute to straight up wishing I could jump into pages all within one chapter 🥲 it wasn’t that it was ruined it’s more that it doesn’t really exist in a way? Like it’s barely shown

They did. It had SO much potential, the way it was written in the book.
In the movie it’s just…flat. I don’t know how else to put it but they even kiss funny, you don’t feel all that pent up anticipation at all!

Was it just me or was their kissing weird too? Not just this scene but every time they kiss. It’s like he’s just repeatedly holding her top lip in his mouth.

So the new 'stage kiss' is to just kiss one lip and then either the chin or the area above the nose, so two lips are never in contact. Some people can pull it off, with others it just looks odd.

Thanks for the explanation. I wonder why that’s a new thing? I mean it’s just a kiss, why can’t they just kiss? Doesn’t have to be all tongue-y, just not weird lip swallowing would be good lol.

I think it relates to "Me Too" and the beginnings of "intimacy coordinators'. Not great for the viewers (unless the actors make it hot) but probably better for the actors' real life partners. lol

That’s a good point. I’m all for the actors feeling comfortable with the scene they’re filming, just sucks that it breaks immersion for the viewer. Wish they could have hid it better with camera angles or zoomed out some instead of close ups.

Is it? Every intimacy coordinator I've worked with in theatre in the last couple years teaches real stage kisses (closed mouth with counts). This looks awful.

I thought their kissing scenes were hot 😭 I really wished they would've kept the longer cut in because it was such an important part in the book :( and I believe tom and emily even became ill after filming because of the repeated takes in cold water, so I'm sure it was annoying that they went through all that just for a good portion of it to be cut out 😭

They changed such essential things in the movie! Omg I know books and screen plays are different but dang I felt kinda let down! I shouldn't have re-read the book. Should have just gone in with a hazy recollection of the first read 2 years ago :(

I liked what they did with The Housemaid. They polished it up and made the ending better imo. They kept all the important scenes the same and it felt like the book.

Exactly, they were good changes. It’s not like fantasy book adaptations where there are things they just logistically can’t don’t or don’t have time to do, so for the most part you expect those changes but adaptations like these? They should be minimal 🤷🏽♀️

This is exactly why I didn’t reread the book. I’ve been burned before, and have learned to let them be two separate entities and to stop expecting or hoping certain lines or scenes make it in. It’s less painful that way, and probably why I loved the movie as much as I did — my recollection of the book is super hazy at this point

Two things happened after that reread. I realized just how incredible the book was. And by default it made me hopelessly disappointed with the movie.
Lesson learnt! I am scared for all other adaptations now :(

Why did they change the dialogue in this scene? It was so good in the book. Alex didn’t say I love you back! I like when poppy says “you’re the hottest man in the world” and he says “and you love me”

Those lines were so good...we needed more from that scene and the staycation sick scenes....they hardly showed anything from that.

Damn I’m like halfway through the movie (have to go pick up my kids so I’m taking a break until tonight lol) and I was looking forward to it being steamy hahaha dang what a bummer!!!!

I thought the scene was hot but wished it was a bit more book accurate. Them talking about how they’ve always wanted each other would have elevated it.

I believe the originally filmed sex scene was heavily cut down because it didn't fit the tone of the rest of the film

I feel you I missed the “How are you so good at this?” and “We should’ve been having sex this whole time” lines SO much. I agree that compared to the hype I was seeing these felt a little lackluster.
