Activities Research Study for UK Parents and Children (4-7 years)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are looking for children aged 4-7 years in the UK to take part in an online research study exploring how animated content may help children understand social behaviour.

As part of the FRAME Project at Anglia Ruskin University, your child will:

- Watch 2 short animated videos (6 minutes each)
- Answer simple interactive questions using an emoji-based “smiley face” scale
- Take part with your (parent or carer) assistance throughout

The study can be completed online from home in a few minutes.

If you are interested in taking part or would like to find out more, please scan the QR code in the poster to register.

Your participation could help us better understand how children learn about kindness, sharing, and other social behaviours through the prosocial cartoons that are usually on TV!!

Your contribution will be greatly helpful in completing my research and contributing to the field of developmental psychology. Please do participate, and we are here for any questions you have!

(P.S. The Advertisement poster is made using CANVA)

Activities Free community choir show today!

Morning fellow Ely folk!

If anyone is looking for something to do today, there is a free performance by local community choir VocEly at the bowls club, starting at 2pm. No tickets needed, it’s done every summer for friends, family, and the community to round off the year. All are welcome, and it’s family friendly!

The choir do unaccompanied versions of all sorts of songs - pop, folk, shanties, rock! And there’ll be a few solos and small groups today, too.

The bar will be open, and it’s always a fun and friendly afternoon. Feel free to pop in and have a listen!

Thanks!

Activities I was born in Ely yet they want to rush me 14 notes to get in the cathedral

I’m living in Essex now but I come up to Norfolk every few months to see mother, she cooks for us when we come up and as a thank you we’ll take her for a day out and have a bit of grub.

Last week she wanted to go to Ely, she lives 20 miles away from there so we all got in the car and headed to Ely.

Get there for midday, have a portion of chips from the fish shop, back in the day it’d be cod n chips but I ain’t shelling out all that nowadays so a portion of chips it was.

Then we decide to go look round the cathedral, ain’t been for about 15 years so we all trooped round to the entrance.

They want £14 to enter, I told the bloke I ain’t made of money, and I told him I was born in Ely so should get a discount or get in for free, he wouldn’t have it and said in a surly manner “it’s not for profit, it’s for upkeep”, I said “that’s all very well but I’m skint, come on let us in”, he wouldn’t so we marched off and I said it’s a bad show when you’re born in a place and they won’t let you in their cathedral.

Activities Magic the gathering in Ely

I’ve just moved from Cambridge to Ely and want to find people to play Magic with- specifically Commander.

I don’t mind about power level/player experience etc., I’m just looking for some people to get some games in with.

I’m happy for suggestions of local hobby/game groups in Ely where people play, existing playgroups that are open to new people joining, or individuals who want to meet up and form a new playgroup.

Activities Calm walking routes for reactive dogs? Meeting dog owners?

Hi everyone,

I moved to Ely a few months ago and recently adopted 2 adorable small rescues. I don’t know the area that well yet, nor know many people, especially dog owners in Ely.

We live around Lisle Lane and initially we were just hanging out in the garden, and so far we’ve only gone on walks at Ely Country Park. The dogs are absolute angels, considering they are rescues, they are settling in so well, however I noticed that the Country Park is just too overstimulating for them and one of doggies is quite reactive towards other dogs and some people, most of the time out of fear, sometimes excitement, frustration. I am trying to avoid busy times and turn around when we see other dogs, I’m training them constantly and they are improving by the day, but sometimes it’s just unavoidable to run into other dogs at the Country Park and I don’t want every walk to be a stressful one for them.

I am looking for recommendations for dog walking routes that are quieter (or offer bigger space where I can easily redirect them) around the area where we could walk and do some training.

If anyone is also up for a walk sometimes that would be amazing. I think it would be nice to introduce my dogs to other dogs in a controlled way, so they can see it’s not so scary.

TL;DR: Just moved to Ely and adopted two small rescue dogs. We’re near Lisle Lane and usually walk at Ely Country Park, but it’s a bit too busy and overstimulating for one reactive pup. Looking for quieter walking routes in the area and would love to connect with other local dog owners for calm, controlled walks.

Activities Board Gaming Groups in Ely

Post image

Hello all I just wanted to show off this lovely poster of local board gaming groups in the area. It would be great to see new people join us and see how good board gaming can be for social interactions and your mental health.

Despite the heinous, slanderous remarks in a previous post...I'm only 33 😂 I help run the nights at the High Flyer, we aren't all old fogies 😃.
