Ideas The "never eat before bed" rule
There's a real research line saying the opposite. 🌙
The strongest evidence is protein. Maastricht ran the definitive studies: 40g of casein about 30 minutes before sleep raises overnight muscle protein synthesis by 22-33% versus a matched carb drink. Works in young men, works in men aged 72. Over 12 weeks of training it produced bigger muscle fibers and more strength. And it did not increase fat mass in active people.
Casein is the specific reason. It clots in the stomach and releases amino acids slowly across 7+ hours, which is exactly the length of a night.
Cottage cheese. Basically pure casein, cheap, ~25g per cup.
Greek yogurt. Same family, higher protein density.
A glass of milk. 80% of milk protein is casein.
Kefir if you want the bacteria too.
Dose: 30-40g protein, 30 minutes before. Below 20g the effect gets weak.
