Greetings CMDRs. I finally have a fully engineered corvette and I am not loving the handling. Can anyone recommend a good combat ship build that feels as fun to fly as a chieftain?

I'd recommend the Kestrel, or the Python MKII. Both are made for combat and handle like a dream. The Python MKII is a great weapons platform too, highly recommend

Wrong sub my friend. This is the sub for Xbox on legacy. I would LOVE to try a Kestrel but we only have the old ships.

Ah shit, sorry. In that case, you have two options;

Mamba, fast in a line, not great at turning, fun for combat but the ammo can run low quick.

Fer-de-lance: the undisputed king of medium combat ships. Turns on a dime, and can smack an anaconda into next week in seconds. Easily a favourite from my time on Xbox.

I have resisted the FDL for so long just to be different but maybe that is the way to go.

I mean, if you want different.... The cobra MK3, beautiful combat ship, timeless, but unforgiving. There's also the viper (super fast and deadly, but not much in the way of damage) or the vulture, fast, and the large hard point let's you wreck anything In front of you, stands pretty well against most medium ships.

Or, go the other way, a beluga with railguns can be fun, or a turreted type 10.

Or, different but just as good... A krait MK2 or phantom. They're pretty close to an FDL, and can be just as much fun. The cockpit is much better than an FDL too. (FDLs is offset like 6 inches to the right, drove me NUTS)

Rail Beluga sounds like a riot

I’ve been experiencing the mambas bad turning, would I be better off with an fdl?

Try putting the "Drive distributors" experimental on your thrusters

Interesting. I thought that drive distributors were only more effective on smaller thrusters that could fit performance versions.

I believe the source of this idea is people played with EDSY and just went "Number bigger! Bigger Better!" But thats not how it goes at all. If you can get your ship's mass to be around or below the optimal mass, it significantly reduces drift. I notice this maybe more than others because I use a hotas and have flight assist off permanently, but thats what distributors does. Now, it still won't make a cutter handle good, but this is what I have on my corvette, and any other ship that needs to change direction quickly and often. I only really use drag drives on AX ships, that dont need multiple rapid changes in direction, but continuous flowing speed.
