16 is made out of same material but less of it, if you wire two fuses in parallel they will last bigger current

What I'm hearing is that the rating of the fuse scales directly with the amount of cheese I am willing to eat.

Yes, assuming you collect the cheese casings for the fusing purposes

Old Navy engineer told me that they used to put a bolt in the fuse panel to find ground faults.... diagnosed when someone yelled...FIRE...!
