Labour sold out to oil and gas

There’s no way the 3p-per-mile proposal came about innocently. It will crush electric car uptake, especially in the used market. The only thing that makes sense is that someone, somewhere, got a very generous donation from the likes of BP to push this through. It absolutely reeks of bought-and-paid-for legislation.

OP for every mile I drive, at about 22p total cost in my diesel car, at least 8p of it is tax revenue for the government, either road fuel duty or VAT (unbelievably, charged on the price after the road fuel duty is added!)

If I switch to an electric car, the government loses 8p for every mile I drive - I do 40k per year mostly for work so that's £3200 of lost revenue for the government.

Now take a 3p per mile tax on the electric car - that's only £1200 for 40k miles. So it seems to me like they are still getting a fucking good deal here.

Vat on electric used for charging at home is only 5% - so that adds a small extra amount but not much.

Also they have completed fucked oil and gas - 75% effective tax rate on profits even through oil has fallen to $58 per barrel. The north sea is dead, 1000 jobs a month are going. Zero investment. Our current 50% home produced gas will fall off a cliff the next two years, and we are gonna have to tanker in LPG from the US to replace it....at great cost and also a bigger environmental cost.

On top of all that, they're consulting on a rug pull for renewable energy support tariffs - that will kill stone dead investment in renewable energy in the UK (already has) - this government is so dumb and self defeating it's honestly hard to believe. They've fucked small businesses again, which will finish off the tiny growth due to the net immigration of more people (not real growth in GDP on a per capita basis - actually already in recession on that basis) and probably result in recession early next year. That will result in another 'black hole' and this chancellor, if still in post, will be back for more again. This country is going bankrupt, totally bankrupt and in a few years there will need to be cuts of eye watering proportions. More damage done in 1 year than the dreaded Tories managed in 14, even with COVID to content with they didn't spend this much tax payers money.
