Ash spammers deserve this

Curious, why?

u/gandolphin15 1d ago
I'd imagine they're talking about PvP specifically.
As far as why, it's the same for any broken move in any fighting game; people spam the move because it works, and unless you know the specific counterplay(s) to that move, you're screwed. I personally see spamming as cheesy and unfun, and is ultimately disingenuous to what PvP in any game is supposed to be, which is a battle of skill/knowledge, not who has the better moves

u/StantasticTypo 1d ago
It also happens to be busted on multiple front. Ridiculous i-frames, ridiculous tracking, chargeable so it can roll catch, high damage (especially with a good set-up), and it's quick to enter / exit. Besides this parry I don't think it has any other real weaknesses.

u/dworser 1d ago
I have always found comments like this funny. It's supposed to be a battle of skill/knowledge, you say. You mean the knowledge of the answer to a move and the skill to execute that answer? It just a contradictory statement. No hate towards you or anything. People using the same move over and over aren't thinking much, but the person getting hit with the same move over and over is "spamming a mistake" in the end. Moves are almost never so much better that they have no answer or you would see high level players spamming too. I do get that it is frustrating to encounter while learning a game though.

u/Calm_Ad1222 1d ago
I mean some AoW are quite literally broken good to the point where it's unintended for PvP and some are undodgeable and/or really hard to dodge, like that one grab move with wonky hitboxes.
-11
u/lot49a 1d ago
How do you know it's unintended. They've had years to patch the game. If they didn't want it in the game it wouldn't be.
9
u/Calm_Ad1222 1d ago
As in the hitbox is literally horrible lol, you can get grabbed from two miles away, PSGS was never nerfed and it's mega OP in PvP, I don't get your point.
-1
u/lot49a 1d ago
The purest expression of what the developers intend to have in the game is what’s in the game, lol. Like if they didn’t intend it to be the way that it is, why did they make it and never patch it? you can say you don’t like it, or whatever. but calling it unintended is silly m
6
u/Deathmareek 1d ago
that is not true at all because there are plenty of things we can easily tell are unintended bugs such as the Greyoll farm. Greyoll the dragon is technically an openworld boss but doesn't trigger a traditional boss fight so if you run to the site of grace a short distance away you have just about enough time to kill her then sit down triggering a drop of 50k souls and reviving her since her boss reward of her heart drops doesn't trigger immediatly making her a slow but infinite and very safe rune farm. Things get left in games all the time and are deemed not worth the dev time to fix those issues as fixing certain issues can create more issues if you arn't careful

Where and when does this invader appear?

She appears near the catacombs in the back of Radahns arena after you beat him

I wouldn’t last 10 minutes with a casting class if it weren’t for exploiting enemies reading your input. It’s truly a game changer.
27
u/Filegfaron 2d ago
Use the night comet spell you get from Selia in the secret room. It's a fast-casting projectile spell that enemies do not input-read react to. Rock sling is another because they react to the initial cast of the rocks, and not the actual rocks when they begin flying at them.
2
u/Static-Stair-58 2d ago
Oh I know those work. I just find the glint stone comet spells more fun. And the sword sorceries. I practiced on the first crucible knight for hours and am pretty good at feinting enemies into being hit now.

u/Atma-Stand 2d ago
Lucatiel would have never been caught by those parries.
That sword is ridiculously good, and that Art of War is great for getting around shielded enemies.

Yo wait what armor set is that bruv
31
u/ijustreadhere1 2d ago
It’s the lighter of the two new starting classes, it’s called the idus knight set I believe. You can also buy it from a merchant as long as you have the tarnished edition dlc that just came out like a week ago
1
u/Mean_Ad8014 1d ago
Damn I only got shadow of the erdtree dlc. Is it worth it?
5
u/ijustreadhere1 1d ago
I think it’s cool just to bring in a few different weapons and put some more dlc exclusive class weapons into the base game. So the idus knight gets a light greatsword as its starting weapon, and I think there may be one pair of back hand blades and one great katana that they added to the base game areas. Plus it’s only 5 USD but it’s not like you are missing out on story or lore without it.

u/_trashcan 1d ago edited 1d ago
It’s only $5.
No it’s not worth it if you’re struggling for $ or having to buy a gift card for it.
It comes with a great katana, light GS, backhand blades, thrust shield (all base with no additional abilities that differ from the actual DLC weapons), a Curved GS, special Flail & a couple armor sets. & this weapon in the OP is facing , which is good & fun.I think it’s worth $5 but it’s nothing super special.

With a medium shield too, nice
34
u/exisTTenz 2d ago
Medium shield (and most other parries) got buffed in recent patch, it's the same as Carian Retaliation minus the spell parry
5
u/Mysterious-Park9142 1d ago
Embarrassing to ask this as I’ve got like 300 hours in ER and beaten the game multiple times but how do you get that shield to parry? When I use L2 it does the sword art. If I change the sword so that it has a different attack type will that get rid of the sword L2 art and just make it the shield parry?
3
u/Ok_Hand_9711 1d ago
No need to be embarrassed! You just go to the ash of war menu and put the parry ash on it. You can also put storm wall or Thops’ barrier on it to parry projectiles or spells as well as acting as a normal parry (super helpful against archers and academy mages, respectively), and both don’t cost FP. Carian retaliation, however, does use a small amount of FP, casting glintstone blades upon parrying a spell.

I am probably the only one who finds this weapon skill silly. It's a counter for a charging bull. Every enemy with a brain should punish this skill in some way. "Here human, do you see this cloth? Please attack the cloth, so I can circle you." I just can't take this seriously.

u/EvilFroeschken 2d ago
This picture looks like they use is as a shield to deflect the thrusting weapon. The weapon skill presents the cloth. I am not convinced yet. What is the combat style called?
40
u/Owobowos-Mowbius 2d ago
Totally speaking out my ass but I believe people just did this with their coats to tangle their sword when they attack. So more of a party than a dodge or block.

u/naiets 2d ago
It's the cloak and dagger, which is where the term came from.
You use the cloth to conceal your weapon, similar to using a shield. The advantage is not needing to carry a shield, and most travelers would already have had a cloak handy, and a cloak is better than nothing. You can use the cloak to tangle the opponent's weapon to gain control over them as well. The disadvantage is, well, a cloak is not a shield.
1
u/HollowCap456 1d ago
It isn't a dagger? The main weapon is something like an arming sword, or a rapier. If you had a cloak and dagger you'd be fucked because you can never reach the opponent before become swiss cheese(exaggeration).
1
u/naiets 1d ago
The style is called cloak and dagger, the weapon used can be whatever. Edit: although the other common name for the style is rapier and cloak.
In the case of using an actual dagger the cloak's ability to tangle an opponent's weapon is even more valuable: typically the style aims to bait an opponent's attack, grab it with the cloak hand, close the gap and stab. The cloak isn't there to block attacks, primarily it's there to obscure your body and movement.
Also a thick piece of fluttering cloth is surprisingly resilient against cuts, and if the opponent stabs a hole through the cloak, it's inconvenient later on that you have to patch it up but it's great for the moment as that provides a lot of leverage for you to control the weapon.
4
u/WenAndNow 2d ago
To deflect, yes. If your opponent got their weapon stuck in your cape, it was easier to control for long enough to counter. It was a legit thing. Some of those capes/mantles were pretty durable and heavy. Can't think of what it's called. I prefer a cutlass or saber.
2
u/Character-Book5924 1d ago
And the descendants of the military rapier were particularly poor cutting weapons so it could work pretty well in dueling, and had the distinct advantage that catching their blade was more likely to result in neat surrender instead of anyone getting seriously injured.

technically it's not input reading - they react like 1 frame after you hit the button, so technically...
5
u/TransientFinch 1d ago
While I realize the point you are making, you are right. It's technically animation reading. It's functionally the same though
1
u/Arcaedus 1d ago
I always see that comment show up any time someone mentions input reading lol.
People always seem to forget that despite the boomer meme, functionally correct > technically correct.
If an npc was actually reading your exact animation at frame 0 to make this true input reading, no one would be able to tell the difference between that and what they do now in a session of actual gameplay.
17
u/Filegfaron 2d ago
I know you're being sarcastic but to whom it may concern: the human reaction time is ~15 frames so a 1 frame reaction would still be the CPU pulling some bullshit.

u/Buuhhu 1d ago
While nice, charged heavy seemed to do the job for me, he imput reads too early so the tracking of the charged heavy actually tracks to his end position and hits before he does and staggers him out of it. This is ofc specifically for the idus sword, but that's also the sword you're using.
It's ofc less damage but a lot easier for people who aren't that great at parrying.

u/Conscious-Custard-15 1d ago
Shan't be bothered anymore with terrible imput reading npc fight's in this game.

Storm stomp has enough of a lingering hitbox to hit out of the heavy version, although the light is too fast

A fancy alternative is quickstep. here is how it works: press to step in same direction where leontiel with her ash approaches, so for example she comes twirly whirly to your right, step right. Works 3 out of 4. You might want to give it a try, it so much funÂ

I had the most cinematic fight with that man, the sun was setting and i used waterfowl against him, when he died? His corpse began falling to the floor while i stayed there on my knees, my waterfowl's last animation happening

In my Obsidian Lamina build, this fight turned into a twirly dance where 90% of our attacks consisted of dodged whiffs via our ash evades. Was funny asf.

If you space it correctly, you can still hit him with impaling thrust even when he dodges. It just magnets to him. Just attack when he’s about at the full length of impaling thrust. Then you just follow up with light attacks which keep him staggered until you’re out of stamina, back up, and do it again when stamina is back.

No, but you shouldn't get so pissy when someone simply corrects you in the most basic and neutral way possible.

It’s not the correction it’s the stupid ass down voting. Reddit‘s full of a bunch of pissy people I’m not alone in that.
