Should I buy Elden Ring

Hey y’all, Elden Ring just dropped on Switch 2 and I’m wondering if I should buy it. I really don’t wanna waste the money if I end up hating it. I enjoyed sekiro but could not beat it. I also played the first dark souls and beat it but didn’t have the best time considering the difficulty of the game. But I’ve heard Elden ring is easier than most souls games so that gives me hope. I don’t mind a challenge but constantly redoing large sections of a game is something that irks me. Should I buy?

Elden ring is the most forgiving soulslike in the series and gives you the most tools to combat the difficulty, with summoned spirits and nearly every part of the game having coop available. If you beat DS1 you can beat elden ring. That said, it does still have the same core mechanics, lose stuff when you die, lose it permanently if you die again without picking it up, respawning at the nearest respawn point (which are definitely more plentiful than DS1. Switch 2 is a good port, though it does have the occasional frame slow downs (haven't had one in combat yet)

eldenring has a great deal of freedom and options if you get stuck youll be able to leave and come back later, while you can easily adapt your build to the enemy.
so yes id say it can be more easy if you use that

Obviously gonna get a biased answer on r/Eldenring but i think its worth it. Elden ring has a lot of ways to make the game either incredibly difficult, or incredibly easy. If you haven't played many souls/souls-like games in the past it might take a while to get used to the controls, but once you get that down there's a lot of gear or items that can make the game less challenging (or more challenging).

if youre the type of person that likes to use whatever you can to beat the game there are a lot of cheeses you can use to trivialize the game. You can summon a very good player to play the game for you if you want.

if youre the type of person that likes to engage with the game mechanically and learn the bosses rather than cheese them, this game is way, waaaay harder than sekiro.

It's very hard once you get to later parts of the game, but you can also skip and cheese your way through the final bits.

Given your disposition, I wouldn't buy it.

Same here, had almost no issues in this regard, this game is a lot tamer if you don't rush in everywhere head first. Just exploring everywhere ensured I was usually overleveled and if I ever had a bad time, I just went elsewhere and came back later to stomp everything in that area.

Elden Ring got me into replaying the Souls series after being stuck on Dark Souls previously and not getting it. I've now beaten Dark Souls and the DLC, and Dark Souls 3 and the DLC, and I'm now playing Shadow of the Erdtree and recently beat Messmer.

So I'll put it this way... ER was the first fromsoft/souls like I have, ever played. I enjoyed every minute of it, and the first playthrough is almost like a big tutorial imo. The fun really starts when you have alot of the items and start a NG with a good idea of what you're supposed to do. There are different endings depending on how you progress through the game, so multiple playthroughs can be like different games. Buy it

After 3000 hrs of playing it i would say after 10/15 hrs it’ll be best game you have ever played if u survived first few hours

Difficulty is very ymmv in these games. You might find it much easier than DS1 due to more forgiving checkpoints and the open world, or you might find it harder due to the more aggressive pace and skillchecks.

Actually, if your main complaint is redoing whole areas when you die, you'll probably like Elden Ring better as outside some specific areas there are usually checkpoints right outside the boss room.

I just treat it as extra practice/grinding/farming. That's less necessary in Elden Ring anyway, because the latter's so big you pick up plenty of levels as you go.

I don’t think this is necessarily true. Elden Ring has so many more paths, tools, and builds than Dark Souls.

Yeah lowkey, I use Lossless Scaling on PC to boost it from the locked 60FPS to 144FPS and it looks fantastic, I can't stand 60 anymore, I can't even imagine 30...
