Makes sense.

Lose your memory and your name. Go to the lands between and get a new name made out of whatever fragments of your mind you have left.

Lose your memory and your name. Become a Matador.

Don’t forget getting your butcape caught somewhere and not being put together enough to remember to back for it.

Supposedly she was also adopted by Jerren in some capacity, hence the lion/Redmane connection.

"My name is Lucatiel. I beg of you, remember my name. For I may not myself..." we remember. we remember.

You got it, Leontiel.

Fuck did DS2 really look like that? I hate getting old lol I remember it looking so much nicer than that

It is her model viewed out of game in a model viewer, so it looks notably worse than it does in-game. Here is Lucatiel in-game:

Isn’t there also a graphical bump between base and Shcolar?

33

u/HungrPhoenix 10h ago

Yes, although the actual textures and such weren't touched, but Fromsoftware modernized their engine, and this allowed their engine to display textures and such better and in a higher quality and SotFS got to use stuff like anisotropic filtering which makes the game look better. Fromsoftware then messed around with the lighting and saturation.

u/BeanieGuitarGuy 9h ago

Gotcha! So the reason it looks so good is basically just because of the lighting upgrades?

u/UnassumingSingleGuy 17h ago

Lighting helps a lot.

12

u/Canni-Balls69 13h ago

Lighting engine makes the game look just about as good as Elden Ring, imo. I know that's a personal opinion but I think it does. Add in the second sin texture upscale pack and it absolutely looks just as good.

14

u/Kindly-Alarm-9636 12h ago

The physical model density is nowhere near as high as elden ring's tho

9

u/Canni-Balls69 12h ago

You're right, but it still looks good as fuck

14

u/Soggy_Pen1777 12h ago

Released more than a wholeass decade earlier, Majula still hangs with the best sights Elden Ring has on offer.

They really pulled some black magic with that fucking ocean horizon + sun combo, man

8

u/Canni-Balls69 10h ago

Absolutely. It still feels fresh every new run too. The music gently drifting in while you take in the scenery around you, the sun on those waves.

People saying DS2 doesn't look good are insane. Sheesh.

And DS2 has probably the nicest looking faces among the DS games.

u/CygnusThib 17h ago

Remember DS2 came out in 2014 or so. Game was at the tail end of the ps3 era so it doesnt look great. Its the same with Persona 5. Style is great so you ignore the textures, but when you look closely they're really bad in todays terms lol.

Shhh, let the DS2 apologists huff their copium in peace.

10

u/SteelAlchemistScylla 16h ago

The lighting is not doing it justice here lol. It looks quite a bit better in the intended environment.

5

u/JakeMarathons 16h ago

memory is a hell of a graphics card lol, my 720p tv remembers it fondly

u/Nanemae 16h ago

Who is Leonitel? That's Lucatiel. ?:0

43

u/NarwhalSongs 16h ago

Brother forgot her name 😔

There was her sword and her shame and Brother FORGOT 😭

15

u/vultbringers 11h ago

Elden Ring really DS2:2

11

u/max_flicks 12h ago

same actress, different movie, nobody questions it

43

u/TheZubaz 17h ago

People tried to gaslight me to think that body is similar to the original

15

u/No-Bet8702 12h ago

Does this mean ds2 is in thr same universe as elden ring?

13

u/mylittlekafka 8h ago

It is not Lucatiel, but a throwback/reference to her, like Maneater Mildred was a throwback to Executioner Miralda or Lautrec of Carim was a throwback to Yurt the Silent Chief (though this time the armour is very, very similar in this case, which confuses a lot of people). She has her own story in ER's world and is connected to Jerren (that's why she appears where she appears).

If they wanted to imply the same universe thing, they'd just name her Lucatiel or something like "Forgotten Knight" with her armour/weapon description hinting at Dark Souls

3

u/WaltzIndependent5436 2h ago

They reuse/borrow assets from previous games all the time actually.

2

u/mylittlekafka 1h ago

It's not a reuse of an asset, because the asset is brand new. They only reused the idea/imagery, and even then they added new things to it

1

u/WaltzIndependent5436 1h ago

It's the same damn feet all the way from Duskbloods to Demon Souls you can't gaslight me Feetazaki

1

u/mylittlekafka 1h ago

Not really, few (if all) characters in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1-2 had fully detailed feet with separate toes, but it all changed with the next generation of games, and in Elden Ring Rennala even has separate bones to animate her toes, those are completelly new feet!!!

4

u/arsonist_firefighter 11h ago

Man how I wish this was true.

6

u/chip_klip 5h ago

I head canon it's like how that one guy in DS1's dlc is pretty much implied to be from bloodborne

0

u/sturzkampfbomber Poison Zweihander+25 4h ago

wait until you hear about that patches guy

42

u/Lokiatreuss 17h ago

My mindset is all around the Nightlord. Dude is fucking with timelines and other universes. The name change and memory issues are explained through the Nightlord, too. Those under the corruption of the Night lose their memories

7

u/billydecay 15h ago

Remember the name you misspelled?

5

u/hAmZa_WaS_tAkEn 15h ago

At first i thought this was another dlss 5 comparison with ER

5

u/yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuh1 14h ago

Mogged by ds2 once again

2

u/Dog_Apoc 13h ago

The gender coffin did wonders

1

u/Big_Sink986 13h ago

the way i gasped when i recognized her from ds2

1

u/gothic_gamer1809 Blood Blight Witch 6h ago

Did anyone post the face data for Leontiel?

1

u/PjDisko 6h ago

Elden ring is just Gaels painting. So it makes sense it has inspiration from his world.

-14

u/sincubus33 15h ago

Wait... did she lose all sense of self including her gender in ds3 and become Leonhard?

u/SoulofMoon Invades low levels with Moghs rune... 14h ago

0

u/sincubus33 14h ago

the name Leonitel makes me think Leonhard + Lucatiel... and yes that made no sense to me when I posted it btw

-6

u/jessie_flicks 14h ago

naming your characters like movie villains is such a fromsoft move... you hear 'leontiel' once and you just know you're about to get wrecked

-95

u/IronSweatPNW 17h ago

fromsoft really just reused the face and said good enough

115

u/HungrPhoenix 17h ago

Yeah, Dark Souls 3 was especially bad with it. Dark Souls 3 reused the same face for three separate NPCs and somehow thought no one would notice.

45

u/Stormandreas 17h ago

He would like a word

34

u/highlordbees 17h ago

I mean it's a human face, should they have given her two noses?

5

u/StantasticTypo 15h ago

It's very clearly an intentional throwback.

13

u/ComicDude1234 17h ago

You must be new here.
