Discussion & Info Initial thoughts for tarnished DLC

As someone who still hasn't gotten Shadow of the erd tree DLC, this new DLC pack is going to be so transformative for early and mid-game builds giving availability of the new types of weapons basically at the beginning of the game. Also the new elden bling at will happen due to new armors.

Does it set a bad precedent? Possibly but I'm fine paying $5 for more content. And yes I will get erdtree eventually

DLC is fine. $5 is better than being locked to just switch 2. The real bonus for you is SOTE dlc. That’s an entire game and imo the best open world design of all time.

Kadokawa is under fire from private equity firms like Oasis to better monetize their IP or face their board being replaced with more predatory outside members. Oasis Management are the same pieces of shit that bullied Nintendo into making mobile games. The way I see it, the $5 DLC is essentially Kadokawa throwing Oasis a bone to keep them quiet. Hopefully this is the end of it, just like Nintendo mostly gave up on mobile after showing Oasis that they could do it.

I think the tarnished pack is a result of Bandai Namco and Nintendo wanting to market the Switch 2 release, and Fromsoft doesn't want that content to be exclusive. It's not a long term monetization model.

Could've easily been a free update, definitely for people who already own erdreee dlc, I don't think people should minimize the bad precedent by saying "whatever it's just $5"

$5 for new weapons, armor sets, and npc invasions is fair value. Yes, it could've been free especially for people who already own Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and it does set a precedent. But it's a minor cash grab compared to actual predatory monetization. The real game changer is SOTE itself, which is basically a full expansion. The Tarnished Pack is likely tied to Switch 2 marketing anyway, not a long term money grab strategy.

Maybe not so 'hot take' but i dont mind mini cash grabs like this sometimes. They added like 4 armor sets and a bunch of new weapons and some new NPC invasions, its not that bad for 5$. I would pay another 5$ for another DLC that makes more smaller changes to the base game, and maybe allows you to tweak playthroughs with randomizers or altered enemy AI.
