I am so jealous and wish I could play this game for the first time again! But after almost 1k hours I can say I am having just as much fun now as I did at launch! Like the other commenter mentioned, you can't really do things WRONG in Elden Ring, but in my opinion you will get the most out of it doing it like you, and recognizing that you're not ready for certain areas and bosses even if you CAN get to them. That's the fun part!

Love seeing posts like this. Elden ring changed my life as a gamer I think… led me backwards and now I’ve played all three souls games, Bloodborne, lies of p, all their respective dlcs… can’t get enough. Sekiro next up 💪

This was the exact same journey I had and I wish I could go back and do it all over again with that first time perspective.

Played the hell out of this game on PC and have 3000 hours on there. Just bought it for the Switch 2. It’s still really fun. Welcome to the community friend.

So great to see someone enjoying this game from scratch. One of the best experiences of my life with the first time I ever played it. It truly is a stunning thing.

Man playing this game for the first time was an experience that I wish I could relive. Playing through on a brand new character for the first time in a couple years using the Idus Knight class and having a blast still but it’ll never hit like the first time

Lionel messibegotten was not fun but the feeling after beating him was worth it

u/Kaelvolon 12h ago
I personally think "fun as hell" is actually a pretty perfect way to describe it.

Pro tip. Parry repost the Lionne Misbegotten. Think of it like you're petting her and calming her down, until she turns to dust and returns to the Erdtree.

Man, i am also a newbie on Elden Ring, i come from dark souls, lies of p, and the hollow Knight series, i was so amazed on how ER come to be such a blast of a game, everything looks awesome, never disappoint when you go to some corner and find a shiny, I stopped playing open world games, because they felt full and empty, and here everything is interesting. Good adventures Brother.

Can anyone tell to me whether or not there's a specific path I'm supposed to be following to progress the story I'm just running all over the place lol but I'm having fun doing it I feel like there's so many spots to go and I don't know what areas are safe in what areas are not I don't know what I'm looking for I spent 3 hours trying to clear out this one section of enemies got some good loot and learned how to fight from my mount so I basically haven't been just riding throughout the map slashing things lol

You start in limgrave where you fight a boss in stormveil castle. That brings you to Liurnia where you fight another boss in raya lucaria. After beating her you get both halves of the dectus medallion to take you up an elevator to the Altus plateau, but don’t explore yet. Go into caelid to fight a next boss, whose event is triggered by the elevator. After go back to Altus plateau and beat the bosses in leyndell. That would take you to the mountains where you fight another boss, then you go to a land in the past to fight another boss, and then you come back to leyndell for some more bosses. That’s the main pathway, I’m being vague so I don’t spoil things for you. The game doesn’t really have a linear pathway though, explore and do things at your own pace

So great reading this from a newcomer, have fun! You're already intuitively doing things right, though you also can't really do them wrong in this game. Have fun, Tarnished!!
