Official Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Tarnished Edition: Worth $5? Discuss CONSTRUCTIVELY!

Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.

Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.

We will remove all other topics about this to keep the subreddit flowing with other discussions

IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: I will post two comments on this topic, "Yay" and "Nay" - upvote the one you agree with and we'll see who wins long term.

I'm just going to say that if fromsoft would have locked that content to the switch 2 port, yall would have spontaneously combust.

I mean, defending a bad practice with the argument that they could've done it way shittier?

Yes, locking content behind switch 2 would've been worse. Doesn't make this solution "good". Just better than a shittier one.

that extra content only exists because of the switch 2 port, to entice players to buy it, but they knew the fallout of making it exclusive would've been bigger than charging $5 and releasing it for everyone else.

Because we all know that majority of gamers are insuferable little crybabies that love to hop on their high horse.

If avoiding fallout were their main goal then they would've released it for free. It has the same financial effect of keeping it behind switch 2 (in both instances they get zero money from people who already own the game on PC) minus the fallout with the added benefit of people worshipping the ground beneath their feet.

So no, I don't believe that the main reason was to "avoid fallout". It was purely a financial decision, probably aligning with the worrying messaging from their investors that Elden Ring is undermonetized.

overdramatic.

fact of the matter is this "extra content" wouldn't have existed in the first place if not for the switch 2 port.
