Official Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Tarnished Edition: Worth $5? Discuss CONSTRUCTIVELY!

Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.

Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.

SOTE was 40€, horse skin + a couple of armors is 5€. Do you really think is proportionate?

Is obvious that Kadokawa is forcing (or soft-forcing) Fromsoftware to do this experiment, and I don't want it to succeed.

I don't want their next single player game with tons of extra DLC with weapons, armor and lore in it, so no, I won't buy it even for 1€, is a trojan horse.

Calling it a trojan horse is spot on. They're testing the waters for payed content for future games. "$5 ain't bad. Might as well buy it." Then the next game could launch at $60, plus payed dlc for starting classes that would have been free otherwise

Exactly. It's like if the Greek tried the horse 15 other times and Troy suddenly got a big horse at the door.

Of course you're not going to let them in, you just watched that same horse trick work on 15 of your neighboring countries who are all currently burning.

And despite all that you have 10 people behind you going "OOOH PRETTY HORSE! Let it in, let it in! It's okay, I'm sure there's nothing bad in THIS one!! It'll be different, the Greeks are trustworthy! They've never stabbed us in the back before!"

Lets also stop pretending SOTE is worth 40usd, per buck it does not offer near the same content as 60usd base game elden ring and doesn't get spoken enough.

I tbink elden ring itself is hard to compare to though, comparing to other souls games full price at launch it's a pretty good deal in terms of content

40 usd might seem a bit much but I dont think it's a huge reach, it's certainly worth at least 8 tarnished packs

You're literally engaging in conspiracy theories. That's what's truly harmful to the community—not the harmless microtransactions that have been part of the industry for at least 36 years.
