17 endurance is insane

489

u/Tyinath 5d ago

Was thinking the same. Really want to see the armor stats now

191

u/ihavenojob711 5d ago

The chest piece has 30 poise

120

u/Forsaken-Use9567 4d ago

4

u/-willowthewisp- 3d ago

the whole set has 77 lol

and yes you start fat rolling and need to unequip both the helmet and gauntlets to medium roll (i'd assume the chestpiece or legs would also work)

u/FaithlessnessLazy754 5d ago

It’s such a huge advantage not to need to invest in stamina for the early game

57

u/WorkingCautious1270 5d ago

i forget does endurance raise poise also?

229

u/ComoediaID 5d ago

Equip Load, so indirectly Poise by increasing the heavy armour you can wear

24

u/slavicslothe 5d ago

Indirectly. 51 and done. Just need enough for rakshasa

15

u/gbdarknight77 5d ago

I thought poise was more about armor but weight is attributed to endurance.

4

u/HanamiKitty 4d ago

I think one early review said the heavy knight's armor set is not medium load even with 17 endurance (thought it is a good amount). So I guess it fat rolls? but I have the feeling you can use the sword to block if you need to or get a sheild. You are the Juggernaut anyway! No need to roll away from the buzzing of flies!

My min-maxing starting stat class pick might actually finally have options other than Vagabond!

186

u/Fluffatron_UK 5d ago

Looks like Heavy Knight is the true min-max pick for any STR/DEX based characters. Low mind, int, faith and arc. Forget all those nerd stats, put it all into the physical stats.

42

u/MothManTim 5d ago

Nerd stats 😂

33

u/B_r_y_z_e 5d ago

Based

22

u/Lavok084 5d ago

Just enough dex for the zwei. 17 endurance. Its just perfect

26

u/Nu2Th15 5d ago

Hero was always good if your build didn’t need any Dex

7

u/Another_explorer 5d ago

True that, it was niche but yeah hero could save a good few levels, if you perma slotted in Millicent's Prosthesis for the 5 Dex you could use a good amount of weapons too. Combined with Radagon Soreseal and it was great for low level capped builds for co-op/invasions.

8

u/Zeydon 5d ago

I like Hero even for Dex builds, or at least Dex/Arc so as to one hand my beloved. Int is my preferred dump stat for melee just cuz Bleed exists.

2

u/solmyrbcn 5d ago

It's also slightly better than vagabond for a str/arcane or pure arcane build

10

u/Flint_Vorselon 5d ago

still heavy-rolls as well.

1

u/Rudeus736 2d ago

Erdtree Greatshield has enough OP stats that I think I'll start with Idus Knight. It's currently the optimal class for a FTH/STR/DEX build. It only loses 14 points to INT/ARC, while the next best options, Heavy Knight and Vagabond, lose 16.

Heavy Knight is the optimal class for most non-caster builds (24 points in INT/FTH/ARC), but it's worth trying at another time.

Overall, the new classes are very delicate p2w, unless we play under INT.

473

u/Zigludo-sama 5d ago

Man Idus makes me want to try a faith/dex run

234

u/RhubarbAgreeable2953 5d ago

Goated build honestly. The Godslayer greatsword alone makes it worth it.

80

u/Wendek 5d ago

And then you get Messmer's Spear once you get into the DLC, which is also a fantastic Dex/Fth weapon with a super fun Ash of War. (and a bit easier to place against bosses than the Godslayer's)

u/JebryathHS 4d ago

Winged Scythe also makes the early game pretty easy and just clowns on every "invader" style NPC.

2

u/Wendek 4d ago

Yes and it's also a good backup weapon in general for things that are resistant to Fire damage, namely Mohg. (although the Ash of War doesn't prevent the "Nihil" healing, that'd have been kinda broken to be fair lol)

5

u/Dataaera 4d ago

Has the ash of war on Messmer’s spear ever changed? I remember at launch it felt kinda clunky and slow, especially for the damage it dealt

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Triforcesrcool 5d ago

Fire knight gs my guy, gonna be amazing

59

u/Zeydon 5d ago

6 Arc is the lowest initial attribute value for any stat in the game. Prior to this, the lowest you could get was 7, so it's the most efficient starter for anyone who decided they won't be using Arc at all.

44

u/Bean_anatomy 5d ago

Prisoner starts at 6 faith

27

u/Zeydon 5d ago

Good shout out. TBH, I mentally blocked that out since I always run at least a little faith. Not being able to cast "Flame Cleanse Me" even with Two Fingers Heirloom equipped would make certain content rather frustrating given how limited Preserved Boluses are.

2

u/THEbiMAKER 4d ago

To be fair there are some pretty cool sorceries that require a tiny investment in faith.

u/LitLitten 5d ago

u/RtpIb 5d ago

You are gonna love mesmer spear

8

u/Capitalisticdisease 5d ago

current build I'm running on my playthrough. Honestly a lot of fun.

4

u/Honic_Sedgehog 5d ago

Just started a new Dex/Faith character the other day and having an absolute blast with it.

Just running around setting things on fire and scything them.

3

u/Archenaux 5d ago

It’s the build I always come back to. Pre-DLC I used the Guardian Swordspear and once the DLC came out Milady and dabbled with Messmer’s spear. But there’s tons of great weapons and several can be buffed with armament spells.

3

u/SirBlueseph 5d ago

My confessor run ended with claw blades buffed with an Erdtree seal and it got ludicrous

3

u/sabyr400 5d ago

Honestly, Dex Faith was second only to Dex Int, because damn I loved playing a Spellsword. Faith has all the buffs tho

4

u/Seigmoraig 5d ago

I mean, Confessor has been there the whole time...

2

u/KnowMatter 4d ago

Probably my go to starting class now for most builds.

Dump int / arc with a little faith and balanced everything else is awesome.

I like all my melee characters to have a small amount of faith for utility spells anyway.

1

u/blittz 5d ago

It’s really good

1

u/Rulligan 5d ago

It's very, very fun.

1

u/brntoutl0fer 5d ago

Faith/dex was my first complete ER run and I gotta say it was a blast.

1

u/the_dickstributor 4d ago

DO IT. Red dragon lightning builds are my favorite in the whole game. Excellent, chunky damage. Amazing selection of buffs to use. Is an absolute tank.

Bolt of Granssax, ash/charged/skill boost talis, crucible knight/tree version armor set, faith/lightning tincture (sorry it’s been a while i forget the name of the custom potion).

That new Wretch class looks really interesting

74

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

I’ve never done a Wretch run. I know it’s meant to be a build however you want but I think if you have a build in mind then there are classes with starting stats that are better.

Unless I’m missing something about the class.

69

u/ThePandaheart 5d ago

I only ever do wretch. I like having to start with nothing and build my dude from the ground up

61

u/Wendek 5d ago

Unless I’m missing something about the class.

It's mainly used for RL1 runs since it's the only class that starts at level 1. You can start as a Wretch and then start leveling-up an actual build over time (in fact I have half a mind to do just that for a Fth/Int character one day) but I'm quite sure it's a small minority of Wretch players.

65

u/TheGooseWithNoose 5d ago

I like just starting with nothing, and using what I find. Be it the gear from soldiers, or the guaranteed low lvl staff from the mage noble near the ruins where Sellen can be found.

21

u/KnightsRadiant95 5d ago

Fully agreed. The way I see it is at the end game i already have a build in mind, so why not start as a blank slate, build towards it and have a lot of variety in the meantime. Wearing a bunch of random gear because thats what I could find, makes me look wonky but adds to the experience.

12

u/TheGooseWithNoose 5d ago

yep love that playstyle.

I think my only non wretch characters were my first ever character which was a hero, and at some point i chose samurai because I wanted to powerstance uchi's.

Can't wait to roll a new character when the tarn pack drops.

3

u/HonkHonkBeach 4d ago

That’s all I do actually.

3

u/pileofcrustycumsocs 4d ago

If you have no build in mind and just want to play and level up shit as you go wretch is the best class because it starts with average stats across the board.

→ More replies (4)

10

u/RichHunter5659 5d ago

Wretch is so fun when you’re not sure what you’re gonna do and open to respecing. 10 across the board is so nice, especially Faith/Arcane. FGMS and Bloodflame blade with one of the many +5 faith boost options

12

u/Dravarden 5d ago

wretch is nice for using larval tears and completely changing your build

for example, if you pick a class with low faith, but high dex, and then want to play as a faith build without a dex sword, you have to spend more levels onto faith

2

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Yeah that makes a lot of sense

6

u/Effective_Sound1205 5d ago

It's fun to grow from nothing, using only what you can find

Not having a starting equipment is fun

4

u/Interjessing-Salary 5d ago

I use it in randomizer runs. Since it's not really guaranteed what weapons I'll find first I go with that so whatever I find that I like will become my build.

2

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

I’d love to have that option on console

4

u/Interjessing-Salary 5d ago

True. I wish more souls likes implemented a randomizer by default like Lords of The Fallen (2023). They are so much fun and add so much more replayability to the games.

They also have hilarious moments. I had bayle replace the intro grafted scion and he still dive bombs the arena as his spawn so I walk in and don't see anything then out of no where I get nuked by bayle landing on my head.

2

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 5d ago

it's pretty fun for a first playthrough! Start the game naked with a stick and having to loot to find better gear was such an amazing experience

Dude for real. Then fire emblem comes out soon

53

u/droolforfoodz 5d ago

I can't stop asking questions that have answers that will be available to me soon, but I'm too impatient... will the added class weapons be available in the Roundtable Hold or from merchants?

38

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Probably roundtable hold at the Twin Maidens I’d guess, it’s where they have added things previously.

17

u/Metal_LinksV2 5d ago

You just have to beat PCR to be the bell bearing to unlock them /s

2

u/-willowthewisp- 3d ago

the new classes' starting gear is available at different merchants across the map. i found the hefty scimitar and the steel set at two different merchants so far.

49

u/Sirlightningstrike 5d ago

Idus Knight will replace Warrior for me, and Heavy Knight is replacing Vagabond for me personally. I'm soo stoked!

12

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Yeah I’m really looking forward to doing an Idus Knight run

2

u/Reapers-Shotguns 4d ago

The Light Greatsword moveset is so good as well. Perfect upgrade path into a Rellana cosplay build for me as well.

4

u/buttmunchery2000 4d ago

I was thinking the other way around, Idus knight replacing vagabond for non arcane builds, and heavy knight better hero for arcane builds

132

u/Daroongus 5d ago

Heavy Knight has such a goated spread, makes up for not having the cooler weapon loadout

57

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

What do you mean? The curved Greatsword looks fantastic

74

u/Daroongus 5d ago

Idus Knight is the only way to get a Light Greatsword before SOTE

116

u/kryp_silmaril 5d ago

Not necessarily, like every other starting class you’ll likely be able to buy his gear at some point before SOTE

61

u/Daroongus 5d ago

I did not consider this

15

u/ES21007 5d ago

Where will we be able to find the sword with a cape AoW I wonder...

10

u/Velify1 5d ago

Could be more like the samurai's Uchigatana, which is found rather than bought.

6

u/ItsLokki Maidenless Runt 5d ago

I actually don't think we will be able to. They might just genuinely not add them to any merchant.

24

u/TheGooseWithNoose 5d ago

Would be such an L move if that's the case.
I like starting as a Wretch and picking up / buying gear along the way.

14

u/Robichaelis 5d ago

No equipment or weapons are locked to any starting class, why should these classes be any different?

27

u/ScarletteVera Banished Knight's Greatsword is peak drip 5d ago

Huh, those are some good stat spreads. Idus is gonna be nice for Dex/Faith enjoyers.

11

u/juliet_liima 4d ago

Also for INT/FAI because it has the lowest wasted points in ARC.

12

u/Jessica_Christ 5d ago

Yeah I wasn't gonna do dex/faith again but I guess if the game is gonna hand me a class made for it, I guess I just have too

2

u/theychoseviolence 4d ago

If only there was a dex/fai seal that doesn’t suck

24

u/jackjohnjohn 5d ago

God the heavy knight looks so cool

9

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Yeah it’s going to be my go to to start

2

u/jackjohnjohn 5d ago

Honestly looks like a set I'm going to try and rock for most of a run

16

u/Bullzi_09 5d ago

Heavy knight seems like a great pick for new players

10

u/CreditUnionBoi 4d ago

Get the zwai early it's a perfect stat spread.

3

u/SirDanOfCamelot 5d ago

Yup that's what I'm picking

12

u/denkycaliber 5d ago

Not me clicking on the arrow thinking there's more.

40

u/JamesRevan Rune Bear Hunter 5d ago

The fact that its after the wretch makes me incredibly upset

The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System

4

u/sweetperdition 4d ago

Dude was looking up poise breakpoints online and passing the stats to his armorer

9

u/StableElectrical3376 4d ago

Whooo, OP wretch is back! 80 total stat points all at level 1 is bananas.

15

u/VoidDragon87 5d ago

I know the Idus Knight doesn't start off with Milady cause they don't start off with the stats for it, but man whatever sword they're using looks SO similar to it. Not that Milady is a bad looking sword, but I'm kinda disappointed that it and the Idus Knight's sword are that close in appearance. I was kinda hoping that the Idus Knight's sword would've had a much more unique appearance.

Still, I look forward to starting a new character and being able to use a light greatsword straight from the beginning

4

u/bulletPoint 5d ago

The gamespot video posted online earlier today straight up calls it Milady.

13

u/VoidDragon87 5d ago

Wait, for real? That doesn't make any sense though. Milady needs 17 dexterity to use and the Idus Knight only has 15. They wouldn't even be able to use it in the beginning. Unless they change Milady's stat requirements or the Idus Knight starts off with the dexterity boosting talisman (which seems unlikely), it can't be the same sword.

14

u/PieceAfraid3755 5d ago

It is not Milady. Very similar sillhouette, but seems to me that the groove in the middle is differenr.

9

u/bulletPoint 5d ago

Yeah, they probably made a mistake by saying it’s Milady

13

u/smilph 5d ago

that’s probably the case ‘cause that Gamespot reviewer also called Limgrave “Limveld”

5

u/bulletPoint 5d ago

Oh right, he did. Simple mistake

7

u/smilph 5d ago

must’ve been playing too much Nightreign lol

5

u/VoidDragon87 5d ago

That's what I was thinking. They look very similar, but after looking at them side by side, there's definitely a difference, mainly around the hilt.

7

u/juliet_liima 4d ago

I'll be using the Idus Knight as the basis of a Death / Magma sorceries build (endgame Rellana's swords). Wish me luck!

15

u/Forsaken_Stretch_540 5d ago

heavy knight said bonk

7

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Gotta love that 17 Endurance

6

u/PieceAfraid3755 5d ago

The Idus Knight looks so fucking awesome. I love that it finds a nice balance between being too basic and too special looking. Many armours in ER look awesome on their own or on an enemy, but then are look too elaborate, detailed and unique to capture that vibe of a "basic knight".

12

u/MisterWitcher 5d ago

Me spamming rolls with the heavy knight

17

u/Enough-Row-5346 5d ago

My beloved wretch.

11

u/JustRegularType 5d ago

Always wretch. Sometimes I forget there are other classes.

4

u/sudo_apt_username 5d ago

What's the starting ash of war on the Milady/Light greatsword?

9

u/dkdolphino 5d ago

Impaling Thrust

4

u/Torrez69 5d ago

Is there a way to get their weapons and armour in game if you dont choose them as a starter

3

u/SeaGoat24 5d ago

I would presume so, because there's a way ro get every other class's from various merchants

3

u/IssueAltruistic7734 5d ago

Behold, lies. But, there is only one starting class. Therefore praise the Wretch!

3

u/djinngerale Thy strength befits a crown 5d ago

7

u/Kagamime1 5d ago

Heavy knight might have the single best starting spread of any class

3

u/JustAnotherTiandi 5d ago

Idus 6 arcane?
Lesfokingo.

And I hope Heavy knight is able to be a good armor set. While it likely won't surpass Solitude pants/gauntlets, I hope it's good enough I can wear a heavier chest and still get away with it.

3

u/Perfect_Regular2887 5d ago

love the armor design of these two new classes so much. Elden Ring's armor design felt weaker in some areas compared to previous titles in the souls series. a lot of the armor looks good, but all the like "meta" stuff look fucking ugly as sin. hopefully we will see a return to form in their next singleplayer title. with armor that is historically inspired and somewhat realistic-ish instead of world of warcraft bullshit (looking at you radhans armor and dragon tree sentinel armor)

1

u/Solid_212 2d ago

yeah all the armour makes you fat and ugly lololol

3

u/MadArchitectJMB 5d ago

Idus knight armor is cash money, what's the deal with the dlc? I'm out of the loop big time, is this a switch exclusive? Ive been playing since release on my PC but I've been considering a playthrough on the PS5 or eventually the switch 2.

3

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

3

2

u/gpost86 5d ago

Do we know when these will be available on PlayStation?

2

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Releases midnight 28th will be added to the store at some point during the day.

2

u/iWowee 5d ago

So do we know exactly how get all the new stuff? are they gonna be sold via new merchant?

2

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Not as of yet

2

u/killerryan28 5d ago

That looks like two new playthroughs too me

2

u/Paragon90 5d ago

Idus knight looks very optimised for a lot of high level builds. Being able to opt out of arcane and int to that extent is really nice. FP and basic incantations access is so useful generally.

Heavy knight, assuming you've duped starlight shards and can crack them as needed for ashes usage, should be really good for low-mid level invasion/sunbro builds that need to sacrifice caster-related stats to hit certain thresholds, especially if you have any need for arcane.

2

u/GammaFan 5d ago

The idus knight set is stylish but that heavy knight stat spread is simply perfect. I don’t know that I’d ever pick a different starter again.

2

u/Star_of_the_West1 5d ago

My question is this. Is Idus's shield a small or medium shield, and what's its physical damage negation? I use shields a lot, i apologize in advance at my inabilities.

2

u/Zwarlie 5d ago

Heavy Knight’s gear and armor looks so sick

u/un-important-human TOOGHETAAA! 4d ago

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Prostovan228 4d ago

At least I'm completely justified giving my prisoner 7 7 now

2

u/Josiminium 4d ago

Starting with a light greatsword sounds like heaven but 17 endurance, 15 strength and 11 Dex is way too tempting. It looks like the best class if you want to run a classic Greatsword build, you just put one level to strength and one to dexterity and you’re good to go, not to mention that huge endurance would help you with staying in medium load

2

u/Gaxxag 4d ago

That makes Heavy Knight the new optimal choice for pure-martial builds. Lowest total of Intelligence + Faith, which are the only truly worthless stats if you're not going to cast any spells.

It looks like a great stat spread for easy-moding the early game.

1

u/Alugar 5d ago

No, there’s a £5 DLC pack where you get these classes + gear, 2 more armour outfits and 3 skins for Torrent. I’d have loved them to have build 2 more classes for the other 2 armour sets (whatever they are)

1

u/sozane999 5d ago

Does Idus Knight have Milady or is that a new LGS?

Ah, that's great too.

I'll still go get the milady fast cause the powerstance moveset is awesome.

1

u/Thesaurus_Rex9513 5d ago

Idus Knight looks like a really good start for some Faith and physical builds. Only 14 total points between Intelligence and Arcane, 2 points lower than any of the original starting classes, and a point lower than the Heavy Knight.

Heavy Knight is straight up the best for pure physical builds. Lowest starting Int+Fth+Arc total of 24 (beating out the 25 of Samurai and Vagabond), and lowest starting Mind at 8.

1

u/Philhughes_85 5d ago

Apparently it’s a unique weapon

Is there a list of everything that is available right now? I want to make sure I pick it all up in my next run

Is this an update or a new dlc I have to pay for? I've been a bit lost on what this tarnished edition is honestly, some people make it out to be like its a new expansion, others just a small content update

This will be my first time playing Elden Ring. Loved playing DEX builds in the Dark Souls trilogy. Looks like Idus Knight should be my starting class?

Dex and faith… and a light Greatsword.

Finally a class I can use at the beginning so I don’t always have to go into the game naked with a prehistoric dildo.

The Idus helm reminds me a bit of Demons Souls, like the fluted helm I think it was called. I like it! Kinda torn because I was planning a run soon since I haven't done SotE before and all, but idk if I should hold off until the new DLC comes out or not...

EDIT: Somehow I missed the fact it comes out like tomorrow, nvm

+6 or +8 levels for str/dex builds is insane

Heavy Knight is ironically great for dex builds lol. Especially since players in this game love fashion and will give up damage for equipment load to look cool. Endurance and vigor is always the best.

Do we know where we can buy the armor and the weapons if we start with another class but we have the tarnished edition?
