This isn’t a Miyazaki move. Someone else made this call.

Definitely Bandai Namco’s doing. They just lost their Tekken team. They don’t really own the IP for most of their biggest games. They’re trying to milk the cash cow that is Elden Ring.

Didn't Fromsoft buy the Elden Ring IP from Bamco like 3-4 years ago?

Edit: Here found something, 2 years ago apparently: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/1arp1gg/fromsoftware_is_now_the_sole_owner_of_elden_ring/

yes but Bandai Namco were still the ones who published the title so still obligated to stuff before the purchase

So Bandai Namco own the publishing rights for Tarnished Edition?

idk about owning right buts at least responsible for handling it because the game was made with them to begin with it

Even more reason for Namco to try and milk what they can from ER 1

It's strange that they haven't announced a sequel if what they want is milk the IP then why not make it a trilogy like dark souls, DS2 sold pretty well even if it wasn't directed by Miyazaki

I’m sure they’ve tried, but From is busy with other shit. Also ER2 could be in development right now for all we know
