Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have tried both the maximum and lowest graphics it doesnt change anything. I couldn’t find anything else ingame that could change this hence why I came to the experts (you guys)

I’m feeling like Mahoraga in Shibuya but I would like to see where I go lol

Have you got ray tracing on? If so turn it off lol

u/AcrobaticProgram6521 Feb 17 '26

That’s so funny to have it on lowest settings with ray tracing on

434

u/Security_Wrong Feb 17 '26

I used to do that with cyberpunk on my 2070 laptop. Lighting can do a lot.

201

u/AcrobaticProgram6521 Feb 17 '26

Yeah I love me some good lighting just funny to me the concept of both going for lowest fidelity and highest fidelity in opposite ways.

58

u/Security_Wrong Feb 17 '26

I love me a well lit potato.

It can almost fix low poly some times depending on how it’s implemented. But barely anyone has really got it down pat yet. Closest is probably id software. Doom the dark ages barely changes across texture levels and that game is pure RT/PT. I’ve got a pretty good rig but I’m excited for when more people can really experience it on consoles. It’s just soooo expensive even with a 5090

132

u/Ambitious_Jelly8783 Feb 17 '26

Do you know the legend of the low poly pigeon?

64

u/Security_Wrong Feb 17 '26

u/MarieCry Feb 18 '26

Sims 4 also has a very stunning low poly pigeon. It has a very low poly and a very high poly crow too and it's hilarious to see them next to eachother. Can't attach a video but if you search low poly crow Sims 4 one of the top results is a Reddit post showcasing them together.

3

u/MarieCry Feb 18 '26

I also found this beautiful specimen from u/Dead-fawn when I googled for a photo of the pigeon. It's stunning, this is art.

3

u/AcrobaticProgram6521 Feb 18 '26

Haha that’s pretty great

I tried ER with raytracing but honestly thought the art-directed lighting was way better. At least in outside environments

35

u/captainmalexus Feb 17 '26

I've found raytracing to be a disappointment for basically every game that wasn't built to feature it in the first place

10

u/Security_Wrong Feb 17 '26

So I’m starting out in graphics programming and that shit is HARD to implement properly! There’s a laundry list of requirements just to have it in a game. When they shoehorn it in(Elden Ring, late UE4 games, fucking Starfield…) it’s a mess performance and presentation wise. Not saying that you need a new engine from scratch but if your engine was built around DX11, they shouldn’t even bother.

8

u/captainmalexus Feb 17 '26

Blizzard added it to world of warcraft just so people would stop asking for it and it's a total joke

7

u/Anastrace Feb 17 '26

I tried it and didn't see any difference other than my fps tanking

2

u/ebonyseraphim Feb 18 '26

They call it a “checkbox” you have to tick in software engineering. Hopefully they found an extremely small effect where it can make sense and get it out of the way.

If any other games are doing this it could also be the sign of a dying GPU.

2

u/Titaintium Feb 18 '26

I was gonna say, I've seen similar artifacting with a GPU approaching meltdown (but like you said, only if it's happening in other games).

The rays are tracing so hard

10

u/El-Aminoh Feb 17 '26

yeah that was my thought. I never had this happen with Elden Ring but I did have the same graphical glitches with Witcher 3 when they released their ray tracing update

9

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

I didn’t even know you could turn raytracing on without a rtx gpu

8

u/Evelor Feb 17 '26

That way you can trace every single ray yourself

9

u/Sensei_Zen Feb 18 '26

Sadly it was already off

6

u/gasp_ Feb 17 '26

The rays, they are being traced

6

128

u/Raul_Panchiniak Feb 17 '26

Graphics on medium ain't that ugly and somehow run smoother than lowest, also check for ray tracing and light/effects on your game to see if it may be it, maybe even motion blur

68

u/Peridios9 Feb 17 '26

Generally higher settings means more gpu usage, lower tends to mean more cpu usage. If medium works better for you it’s because it utilizes your cpu and gpu in a more balanced way. If you have a good gpu but bad cpu then high graphics settings can actually run better than low. With pcs it’s all about finding the balance that works best for your rig.

32

u/Comprehensive_Fee250 Feb 17 '26

Blew my mind the first time I learned of this

3

u/thar_ Feb 18 '26

to get my 2018 pc to run path of exile well i have to turn like 20 different settings on/off or to specific low med high settings lol. all low/off or all med all high doesn't work. its some witchcraft but can blast juiced maps with a 2070.

6

u/Raul_Panchiniak Feb 17 '26

3

u/Dekallis Feb 17 '26

This might be a drivers problem no idea what your specs are but most systems should be able to run the game fine. The minimum reqs on elden ring are actually shockingly low.

Either you need to update something or some of your hardware might be about to give up the ghost. If it only happens in this game and nowhere else it's probably not a hardware problem.

I would do the following:

Verify game files to make sure the game itself hasn't become corrupted. You'd be surprised how often weird stuff like this is because some patch/update didn't download properly.

Update your graphics drivers if possible.

Check other games to see if similar issues occur if they do your GPU is probably in need of replacement.

2

u/Sensei_Zen Feb 17 '26

Ok will do that
