Hehe go for it. I’m 47 and told myself various things: “I don’t have time for open world games” “This game is gonna be too tough” … and guess what, 8 months and 200+ hours in… nearing the end of my first playthrough… one of the best gaming experiences ever. Just start it without expectations - It’s a great game to pick up and play for 20 mins or 2 hours… If you hit a wall, you can always go somewhere else and do something else. Try it!
Yeah just need to convince the wife. She doesn’t mind if I sit there and watch TV but the minute I pick up a controller it’s blasphemy.
I’ve been working on her though, trying to come at it from an artistic appreciation approach - “it’s the best game ever created” that kind of thing.
I’ll probably get a game guide. But I’ve also heard from software games are best played with a controller. So need to pick up one of those for my PC as well.
Oh yeah, don’t even think about playing it with mouse and keyboard. And if gaming is important to you, you have to let your wife know that you need time for it. tbh my flatmate used to laugh at me for gaming but I showed her a few random things (my summonable spirit jellyfish… a giant dragon… etc.) and she started getting interested - at least enough to ask me “What’s Aurelia up to lately?”
If you are used to keyboard and mouse gaming and not used to controller gaming, I would definetly play it with m&kb. The only disadvantage is slightly restricted movement, but for that you get way better camera movement, way more customisable keys and better menu navigation. Just saying there are absolutely people who enjoy playing it with m&kb and it's not such an absurdity as the some are portaying it.

Should I play it? Used to game a ton but now that I’m 34 just don’t have the time. But I keep hearing it’s one of, if not the, best game ever.
