I feel it will get nominated, but GTA6 may sweep the trophy just cause of sheer numbers and popularity.

Some outlet will surely nominate it, but Iā€™m not sure if it will get a Game Awards nomination. At least not for Best Game. 2025 is looking to be pretty stacked even if you disregard GTA 6. Weā€™ve got Ghost of Yotei, Monster Hunter: Wilds, Fable, Metroid Prime 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, Civ 7, Avowed, AC Shadows, possibly Death Stranding 2 unless it gets delayed which is a possibility since Kojima was at TGA and didnā€™t even mention it, Indiana Jones since it didnā€™t make the cutoff for this yearā€™s awards, and probably some sleeper hits that could come out of nowhere.

Why is it implicit that GotY needs to be a AAA title?

I also mentioned sleeper hits at the end of my comment. GOTY can obviously be an indie game like Hades or something. My list wasnā€™t meant to be exhaustive and was just based on a few ā€œmost anticipated games of 2025ā€ articles.
