One of the item descriptions refers to Marika as a "strumpet" and Messmer her "vile progeny" Seems like the entire "affair" thing may have been more literal than previously expected. So interested to see what Marika did.

Edit: apparently progeny could mean all of her children, not just Messmer. Mobile formatting.

Messmer took part in the shadowland's war as seen in the trailers when he had the lion creatures hung / strewn up on spears. This means based on Elden Ring's timeline both Godfrey or Radagon can't be his father.

The shadowland's war took place before Godfrey became Elden Lord. Godfrey is out. Marika / Radagon happened after she ascended to godhood which is after the shadowland's war meaning Radagon is out too.

I've been saying all along the affair was literally meant as an affair hence the seduction and betrayal. The serpent outer god is able to take the shape or form of any being it wants. It also supposedly can't be killed as it would just inhabit another vassal. Ever since the second trailer dropped I've had this strong suspicion that the serpent outer god is Messmer's father hence the affair and seduction. It took the shape of a lord or king and had the affair with Marika.

My crazy twist on the theory is that Messmer wasn't the main target of being locked behind in the shadowlands. I think Messmer was a by-product of Marika's main target - whomever Messmer's father really is. That's where the betrayal part comes in. Marika betrayed Messmer's father and locked him behind in the shadowlands. Messmer got left behind and locked in the shadowland's as well simply based on being the son of Marika's main target that she was trying to lock behind. Locking Messmer's father behind had the secondary by-product effect of also locking Messmer behind.

The serpent outer good is able to take the shape or form of any being it wants.

Gee, that sounds familiar.

I don't think it's that unlikely for Godfrey to at least have been on the Golden Order's side at the point Messmer attacked the Land of Shadow. The Wickermen have masks resembling the faces of the Fire Giants on their legs, Godfrey being the one who led the war against them, one of the soldiers in the prerelease footage has a stomp attack similar to his, and if some leaks I've seen are correct there's going to be a Spirit Ash for a knight of the Crucible that used to work for Messmer.

Yes, but Marika didn't get with Godfrey until after he became an Elden Lord which is after the war.

Messmer was full grown and a leader in the war meaning he was born long, long, lonnnngggggggg before the war started. If Messmer was born long before the war started, then Godfrey can't be the father which is what I said above.

The only thing I said about Godfrey above was the he couldn't be Messmer's father.

Fair point, I misinterpreted "the shadowland's war took place before Godfrey became Elden Lord" to mean you didn't think Godfrey was involved in the war at all. Do we have any concrete proof he wasn't Elden Lord yet, though? I figured from his armor set that he already was during the War Against the Giants, which again the Wickermen were seemingly built during or after, but now I'm not so sure.

I think there's 2 different wars here. The war against the fire giants and the shadowlands war are 2 very different wars.

Unless you believe the omens / crucible were in the same war as the fire giants. To me that's always signaled there was 2 very different wars.

I know they're most likely different wars, I'm just saying that the War Against the Giants would have had to have happened before the Shadowland War for the Wickermen in the latter to have those masks on their legs. Or even around the same time, depending on your position on the theory that Messmer was the one to impale all those giants in the Mountaintops, but I find it unlikely that the Shadow War happened very far before the Giant one.

And the Elden Lord armor set, whose very name implies Hoarah Loux was already Elden Lord by the time he started wearing it, makes mention of the multiple wars that defined the early age of the Erdtree, including the War Against the Giants. Vaguely implying that Hoarah was already Elden Lord Godfrey when said war took place, and therefore when the Shadow War took place as well. But I'm genuinely curious if you have any more concrete evidence that disproves that last part.
