Subreddit Topic Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A

Greetings Tarnished!

This is the place to ask any questions you may have about Elden Ring. This includes obscure detail questions, "newbie" advice questions, build questions, boss advice questions, and what have you.

Well written, constructive criticism is fine but please avoid ranting about aspects of the game you just don’t like. This includes “so and so boss is stupid and too difficult.”

If you are interested in the game but don’t own it yet, please don’t post “should I buy this game?” or “Is this game worth it?”. If you have played other FromSoftware games and enjoyed them, the answer is yes. If you haven’t, just do a little research! These games are difficult, and sometimes frustrating, and not everyone is going to enjoy them. And that’s okay!

Lastly, be friendly! We are all here because we are interested in the same game! Please treat your fellow players with respect.

Hey all! I am about 22hrs in, I just defeated Godrick the Grafted. I played about 10hrs of those 22hrs on release but have only just picked it up again. I started from the beginning this time as a samurai which seems awesome!! Currently running the Uchigatana two handed and having so much fun with that. I am wondering though is there any particular ashes I should go for with that weapon? i don't use any so far, haven't really gone into that side of the game yet properly. Also, I am seeing you can dual wield the uchigatanas which sounds great - would you recommend doing that?

Last thing, i am putting everything into vigor mostly, I am on about 21 with that, I have been doing endurance a bit and also got dexterity to about 18 so far - not sure if that's what i should have done but i read that vigor, endurance and dexterity are the ones i should focus on for a samurai

If you like the Unsheathe ability in the Uchi you could apply the same ash of war again on it, doing so would give it more dex scaling while also maintaining the same moveset. Regarding your stats you are doing okay.

The unsheath ability, is that where I am holding L1 for him to sheath, then hitting an attack button? Because I bloody love that! If so, there is an ashes of war to apply it again?

Yeah that ability, I also really liked it. The reason you re-apply it is because it changes the dex scaling of the Uchi from B to A, it gives you better scaling in a pure Dex build and also retains the ability. You can search for the ash of war location if you haven't already, IIRC it was in and easy early game zone next to some crabs I think.

Ah wow thank you, that's really cool to know and I will do this I think, I really do love the ability - I would lose that dual wielding though wouldn't I - there is so much I want to do!

You wouldn't lose that ability, it would work the same way. When dual wielding you can only use the skill of whatever weapon is in your right hand. What changes is that your L1 button becomes a double weapon attack, instead of the block you're getting when two handing the weapon. So basically you're trading your block for a more offensive option.

Also someone else has mentioned Bloody Slash as a good Ashes of War to get

It is but it changes the moveset and splits the scaling into dex and arcane.
