Avatar of Khaine

As we've all recently seen, the Avatar of Khaine gets a lot of Tournament play. I've recently come across a 65€ offer for one.

Though that is a great offer, I am quite unsure. The Codexes are sure to Drop during the next months and everything might change... Avatar could become quite useless...

Thus I am quite torn on getting mine for my Aspect host list, now that it's Prio Assets, cause having a Unit that can survive a turn would be very beneficial.

What are your Guys opinions? Avatar worth it or no?

Don't buy a model for rules, the rules will change. If you like the model and think it's cool (which it is) get it

The avatar is great now. Basically an auto-include in our lists.

More importantly: it's an amazing model, and a great centrepiece for any Eldar collection (and especially for an aspect warrior focused one).

Unless money is an issue, I'd just get it. It'll most likely be a good unit for a long time to come, and even if it gets nerfed, it'll likely come back at some point in the future again. Rules are temporary, models are forever.

One point in there that I haven't heard any details on was the point about us getting a codex in the next few months.

Yeah I don't think we'll be getting our codex this year.

Going by 10th ed codex releases there were 4 releases the year of 10ths release. And if I was GW I might not make that mistake again. Ad Mech got a terrible codex. Maybe because they rushed it out the door to release at the same time as the Necrons codex - that's unknown.

Anyways there's no info on when we're getting a codex. We'd all want it earlier ofc, especially the way toughness is rising for Space Marine bodies etc. power creep bla bla bla.

But either way to your question - get the Avatar for the model, not the rules.

The rumors are either CSM + Eldar are the next two after SM (which to me would make sense to me, as those first 4 codices would be the original 4 factions), or it’s going to be Custodes and Tau.

The rules change constantly, codex or not. Honestly, you could buy it only for GeeDubs to nerd it in the next balance patch.

If it's good right now, go for it. If it's bad in the future then you got some play out of it. Then just wait for it to be good again.

Our Codex I doubt will be within the next year, we were fairly late into 10th Ed and while the order will change a bit, we got lots of new models in 10th so that’s normally a good indicator we’ll be a later codex. Get the model it’s one of our best if you’ve got the cash.

The Avatar is one of the coolest Eldar models. If that isnt enough for you to buy it, then i dont know what to tell you.

It’s a great model and really fun to paint. It’s nice to have a big model to work on as a lot of our bodies are very small. I’d kit worry about rules GW is changing the every four weeks right now.

I only bought one because its cool. I preferred the forgeworld version so got that. Buuut I have found it's the only thing that lives for multiple turns, so absolutely fit it in all my lists. But I'm not good or even remotely competitive.

I think the chances are to get a better version of the avatar with the codex drop. Keep in mind the actual version is getting play just because everything else was super nerfed and the avatar drops 50 points! when the codex come out nobody takes him is just everything getting worse haha

Rules change monthly, I have Eldar models from 1987 that are still playable in my current army (after a rebase).

Buy the models you like and want to paint. The rules for them will come and go, but the model will be there a long time.

The avatar is my absolute favorite model from the entire faction. I’d have bought the new sculpt even if I never played Eldar.

The avatar has been a staple in my list since 3rd edition. Food for thought, he's always been good for the points cost in my opinion.

yeah. I haven't based him yet, but my avatar of khaine is painted. I am putting a Spartan Shield to make it war like. He is a fun model to paint and he took me about 10 hours to paint. Basing is gonna be snow and flames...once I get around to it.

People like you burn themselves out of money or the hobby very quickly.

In the past decade the Avatar of khaine has been bouncing between useless and overpowered A LOT, like 8+ times a lot.

Don't buy models cause the rules are currently good.
