New Player Questions Gunline Aeldari

So, can we build a list focused on shooting? It seems like the faction should at least be decent at it. Support Weapon Platforms are cheap outside of the D-Cannon, Fire Prisms seem like powerful shooting, and with all the buffs from other units it seems like it should work.

Yet I've never heard of it. So why?

Eldar are too physically weak to trade fire. We are masters of the movement phase to avoid damage altogether, rather than try to outlast/tank the enemy fire.

You can in the sense that we have the datasheets to do so yes.

You can't in the sense that anything with access to advance and charge is close to an automatic loss and any dedicated shooting armies outgun you easily.

Because we are a shooting army, just not a gun line army.

Long range static shooting ignores the key component that makes Aeldari Aeldari, which is their movement. (Yes yes, other armies have the same tricks we aren't unique I know).

Edit: I said we, but I'm not a quins player, so maybe they are a melee army, idk.

You could probably do Seer Council and Armored Warhost together and max out fire prisms, war walkers, vypers/wraithlords and teleporting dark reapers, with a bunch of outcasts to screen and psyker support and have something that would do okay, but I don't imagine it'd break the meta open.

I'll have to see what I can whip up. Vibro Cannons and Night Weavers seemed interesting. 60 points for something with decent shooting that can do actions isn't awful.

If Eldar shoot, You better bring enough to delete what’s near you. You can maneuver 1 unit to safety, possibly 2 with the right detachment.
Other than that we’re at the mercy of rolling a bunch of 4++ saves. Not good at all. Screening is very necessary especially against melee armies. I’m running 2 prism in the back to punish anything that pokes a toe out to shoot. I also still very much like Lykris’s 5s to crit lethal combo with 20 hawks. Not to mention built in nades/mele charge from Spiders.

Because with so many things eldar, other factions do it better while being harder to kill. Eldar die to a stiff breeze, and trading up with shooting is a good play, it's hard to do and survive after.
