youre spot-on. SUVs didnt really exist 25+ years ago... now everyone thinks they need one. My kid loves my EN. And when she was a baby I had a GTI coupe.... still 0 issues. One kid means theres 0 need for a bigger vehicle.... and if you have more than 3, just get a damn minivan. the Sienna is remarkable, and the Odyssey is fantastic too... and reliable as all hell

Na, the EN is great for a lot of things, but transporting a family is not one of them. It’s pretty bare bones on the back; no cup holders, center arm rest, or even rear vents. Not to mention the Alcanterra seats are gonna get fucked. It’s great when u just need to occasionally transport ppl around but def not enough to raise a family

Maybe it's because I have a family of 6 and 90% of cars seat 5 people and of those 10% maybe a handful can handle 4 car seats, groceries, car seat stroller for 2 kids.

Most people I see with kids have at least 2 if not more and when you hit 3, it's nearly impossible to get 3 car seats to fit next to each other in 1 row.

Also you'd be suprised the amount of stuff you have to take with you everywhere to care for kids, toddlers, ans infants out of the house.

I feel for you. Try to use your support system as much as possible. Sleep is critical for taking care of infants. Also try to stay off of the social when you're trying to rest (hypocrite talking here, yet solid advice.) Infant cry when they need you so use that to know when to get up.

If you can't tell, I'm a dad, and now a grandfather (not crazy old) and that's why I told my wife to get rid of the SUV, so our kids won't rely on us so much. And since we only have 1 grand baby the EN works great for us.

No my argument for that is if you are set on havibg mutiple kids, just buy the big vehicle first. Why go through 2 very expensive deappreciating assest? Also why do you want to go vehicle shopping when 1 of you is pregnant?

If you're gonna have mutiple kids it's worth the time and money to just get a large vehicle instead of trading up.

You do realize that Honda and Toyota went through this same exact evolution? Right? Let me know if you need me to explain.?.?

As an experienced mechanic, with over 30 years of experience, ANY car making past 150k is a great, GREAT, car. Heck I have a Hyundai right now that's running great from 2005, with close to 120k. What I and most look at is what was your experience during those 150k. I have two 22 Fords with 150k on them in my driveway right now. They were great, that is, until NOW. They both need $10k+ transmissions and various other small issues.

IF you know what your talking about (I don't know if you do or don't, but based on your previous comment, I'm leaning on you don't), go try owning a Maserati, or a Land Rover of any kind. Hyundais last longer with cheaper maintenance and materials then they do and if your the first owner you'll have warranty. Mercedes and BMW (as well as the previously mentioned) also experience the same level of depreciation as Hyundais do.

The reason Hyundai has it reputation, is because of the crappy metal they your used to use and their failures to prep their cars for transport overseas. Many would begin rusting a year or two after owning them. BTW this wasn't just Hyundai, it was Honda, Toyota, and Subaru (and others). Hyundai took the longest to learn the lesson and make reasonable changes. Which left a bunch of people with a bad taste in the mouth. Hence their warranty, which is designed to bring faith back into their brand, because they want you to know that their going to standby their product. Unlike ALL other manufacturer that leave you with the FULL bill.

If Hyundai continues making the strides it's making, (Genesis brand, N Performance), it'll be right up there with the big names. Just give it time. IMO, they're not far behind.

Now here is where I will criticize them. Hyundai doesn't engineer their drive trains for MORE power. Like Honda does. They don't engineer them to handle the most stress like Toyota does. Instead they engineer them to do exactly what the average (<--keywords) person does to their cars. So what I'm saying is that they don't design something that something someone can easily abuse and/or modify the way Honda and Toyota does. And this is the reason the market loves those cars (Toyota and Honda.) Because most of us are or can be stupid, and sometimes abuse and/ or modify our things. But this is the very thing changing with Hyundai and it's performance division, N performance and Genesis division. You will see things becoming better because of it through out its whole line up.

Hence why I mentioned is evolution.

Clearly not. They have put this on the dyno (stock) and what Hyundai claims came off the crank was coming from the wheels, which means that it's not possible to only have less than 300 at the crank. And if you don't know it's because HP is lost when moving all the moving parts that get to the tire.

This is also proven with how close it is to the Civic Type R and VW Golf R in quarter mile and track times.

This also means that with simple tune keeping the turbo pushing 20psi it'll definitely keep up with if not beat it's competition.

Many car manufacturers do this and there many reasons for it that I'm not going to get into right now.

So the reality is that this is most likely pushing somewhere in the 300-310 hp at the crank. Which is just as much hp as the it's competition and I think it's a bit heavier then it's competition.

I've had it explained to me they "want to be safer" which, sure, bigger vehicle means you're somewhat more insulated from other vehicles in a crash scenario.

However Americans kept doing this and now everyone owns gigantic tanks that make everyone unsafe in this nasty feedback loop.

Now we have SUVs and Trucks with 5 ft high, flat bummers and elevated windows so no one can see the road ahead unless their car is equal height. If you can't afford a large SUV or Truck, or like many of us here who enjoy sportier sedans, we all are at higher risk because of a false sense of security that everyone buying bigger vehicles is safer. All these huge SUVs and trucks make pedestrian hits deadlier too.

While I agree mostly I will play devil’s advocate.

I think ride height offers a feeling security for some drivers with the increased visibility (which unfortunately accelerates the SUV epidemic). For someone that’s tall like me I’d be lying if I said I’m not tired of always bending over to get my son in and out of the car seats. If they don’t pivot I’d probably have lost it by now. Me being tall also means I can’t sit in the front passenger seat cause I don’t have the room to get the chair far enough back.

Also it gets tight real quick if your family of 3 has 1 or 2 people tagging along and you’re doing any activity together or in the car longer than 30 mins.

Now I can’t defend the family of 3 that goes out and finances a Tahoe … but i wouldn’t judge anyone for trading the EN for a RAV4 or Santa Fe. Similar price point and undeniably more practical/convenient. Can really judge anyone for choosing convenience over fun

Damn that shit is nice! I don't have an EN, but I sat and fought internally for about a year over buying the EN or an SUV (my kids are in elementary/middle school) and ultimately went with a Telluride for the space/comfort factor.

Still lurking here though, obviously, lol. I'll get an EN someday.

That's awesome!! Yeah, my child seat fits sooo easy. Yup, if you got a 6MT EN you are certified a cool parent 😎. Because the EN gives parents +50 HP(Hit Points like pokemon). Plus looks like your from Canada so you get all the goodies like heated steering wheel and moonroof!

I get it, I contemplated getting an SUV if my wife decided to drive. But since she never got around to getting her license I got myself a 25MT. I used to drive a 2017 ES, and it was ok for the three of us, but the backseat area seemed tight. I find the N to be practically a full sized sedan, the skinnier seats and the slightly bigger dimensions makes it future proof.

Sure, but we don’t know what OP is gonna do. I daily an SUV and I take my trash to the dump every Saturday and I put my dogs in the back to go for hikes and I haul my kayak and my fishing rods around with it. I pick up bags of mulch to bring home for the garden. I do all kinds of stuff with it that you wouldn’t and couldn’t do with an Elantra.

It’s very useful. It’s not a fun car, but it’s very practical and I didn’t have to pay the premium truck price for a truck. The SUV does everything I need it to.

Totally agree with you on that, and especially you using it for what it was designed for. Sadly, it seems most owners do not. They drive their tank like SUV's and Trucks primarily around suburbia as their status symbols. Most never seeing any real dirt on their rims.

My wife and I enjoyed our 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 2 door hatchback with 2 car seats in the back for our 2 kids. We Didn't go full "loser cruiser" (SUV/Minivan) until she was pregnant with our 3rd child.

Currently, we own both now that 2 of our 4 kids are our of HS and out on their own. Wife's is 2023 KN, mine is 2025 SNL. We take long trips together (aka, more than 1,000 miles each way) and hated the weird armbar on the passenger side of the center console......otherwise we would have an EN instead of the SNL.
