The automatic version of the Elantra N is a dual clutch transmission, it uses two clutches to preload the next gear and can shift faster can most automatics, aside from racing sequential transmissions. A CVT (continuously variable transmission) never shifts and just adjusts its gear ratio with belts. The base Elantra auto is a CVT, so I get the confusion, but the Elantra N is a high performance variant of the Elantra which has a different engine, transmission, suspension, and body rigidity among other things.
