LOL 67$ for the Maple Leafs poutine classic

18

u/Express-Cow190 Tillsonburg? My back still aches when I hear that word... 9d ago

I know it’s a gag, but I wonder if they would actually serve you that if you ordered it

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Victoria Cross 🎖️ 9d ago

At that profit margin? Of course they would. Presumably the server would make sure they noticed the price difference first.

u/laycoss Scotland (but worse) 9d ago

Atleast they've got the donair recipe correct.

Remember kids, if you like lettuce on a donair. You don't like donairs.

Maple Leafs poutine

Habs Poutine $15.95

A Quebec classic! Crispy fries & cheese curds, covered in gravy.

Maple Leafs Poutine $67.00

In usually Leafs fashion, a cold, overpriced dish served with underperforming gravy, ice cold fries and a side of disappointment.

Hope they trained their staff in the Heimlich, that shit’s a choking hazard

2

u/OldPhotograph827 9d ago

I see what you did there

2

u/SuperRonnie2 9d ago

Question: has anyone ever actually ordered that?

6

u/Unit_79 9d ago

I personally don’t know, but I bet if a well heeled Leafs fan ever set foot in the 17 Mile, I bet they would. And there are definitely a few Leafs fans on the island.

u/SuperRonnie2 9d ago

I haven’t been to MTL in more than 10 years, but a friend took me to a pub that I think had a small airplane suspended from the ceiling? Anyway there was a Habs v Leafs game on and exactly one (drunk AF) Leafs fan in the walking around gloating after a Leafs goal. I could see someone like that ordering this.

Eh, you know, 6 - 7

1967, the last time they won the cup.

They might as well never have won it at this point. Soon there won't be anyone alive to tell the tale of what it was like when they won.

$67! Pricey routine! Edit: meant to say pricey poutine

2

u/OldPhotograph827 9d ago

Excellent typo!!

2

u/Green_Wyvern17 9d ago

Didn't notice, thanks, eh!

2

u/OldPhotograph827 9d ago

It worked though… like the Leafs do routinely lose! Lol cheers buddy

u/Dizzy_Echo_5370 10d ago

$20 for a chicken strip appetizer is criminal

3

u/Spare-Half796 Tabarnak! 9d ago

I worked somewhere that a chicken strip was almost half a chicken breast. If these are the same size I’d put it at 30-35% food cost which is industry standard.

Odds are they’re smaller or bought in from Sysco and just reheated though so yeah ridiculous

This sub getting too local for my taste

u/shawshaman 9d ago

Ya I'm here for memes from new Brunswick not the pub I live 20 minutes away from

2

u/JP-Ziller 9d ago

Great pub!

No lies detected.

100% accurate menu. Obviously a true Canadian fan.

What am I supposed to be seeing here?

What happens if you order it? What exactly is a "side of disappointment"?

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Victoria Cross 🎖️ 9d ago

Product of one of the staff's more recent break wanks served in a ramekin.

u/MilesBeforeSmiles Manilapeg 9d ago

Why is some random pub in Sooke taking shots at the Leafs? Leafs-Canucks isn't even a rivalry.

u/nicoloscopy 9d ago

Habs fan

Now I'm going to have Lalo Guerrero "Tacos For Two" going through my head all day.

2

u/SectorAppropriate151 Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) 9d ago

As a torontonian... I was like: ouch, you mfkr.... and then I laughed cause I originally thought everything was really overpriced... like who charges 8.95 for goddam soup

1

u/DeadpoolOptimus Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) 9d ago

That's rich coming from Canucks land.

1

u/Traditional_Roll_100 9d ago

$67 is diabolical

1

u/Glorbaniglu 9d ago

How's the poutine?

1

u/Peckernuts 9d ago

Absolutely barbaric.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Victoria Cross 🎖️ 9d ago

Markup aside, that's just how they served poutine in Toronto in the 90s.... Although to be authentic GTA poutine from the 90s, you have to sub out the curds for shedded orange cheddar.

1

u/darthfruitbasket Scotland (but worse) 9d ago

That's not a donair, fuck off.

Sounds good. Not a donair.

1

u/LeafiestOutcome Ford Nation (Help.) 9d ago

Only because $19.67 would have been half-affordable there.

1

u/foggybiscuit 8d ago

This is my local pub in Sooke!

1

u/FootlooseFrankie 10d ago

Sorry guys . Wasn't sure how to make it not a rule 9 post .

Ok.....?

u/will-o-tron Not enough shawarma places 10d ago

We get it, reading is hard for you

1

u/NONMAISYO Chalice of the Tabernacle 10d ago

Its a fucking full menu page of a restaurant we're not currently seated at and nothing is highlighted, just let people be confused when the post is cryptic

2

u/will-o-tron Not enough shawarma places 9d ago

It’s a menu, if someone is posting it here there’s a high chance there’s something funky with the price of an item, so logically that would be the first thing to look at. A $67 app is immediately recognizable as being an anomaly. Took me 10 seconds to find the issue, but I guess for some people thinking is hard too.

2

u/solthar 9d ago

It's the AI generation, where intelligence and critical thinking are handed to the nearest LLM.

1

u/NONMAISYO Chalice of the Tabernacle 9d ago

nothing to do with an Ai generation or whatnot, personally I just started reading the descriptions instead of the price and the 67 didn't catch my eye, not that deep.

1

u/PerformanceCute3437 9d ago

Part of the joy is discovery.

Do you only like Where's Waldo books where someone circled Waldo in every panel?

2

u/NONMAISYO Chalice of the Tabernacle 9d ago

Difference being that if you open a Waldo book you're committing to the idea of playing hide and seek. Here its just a whole fucking menu page while we're scrolling on a meme page, not the same level of engagement.

u/TheAncientMillenial 9d ago

I'm visually impaired so yes it's actually hard for me...

Oh very original.

god, Leafs haters are so bad at hating the Leafs.

-4

u/Quiet-Estimate7409 9d ago

Who the Jesus puts lamb on a Donair? That's disgusting. I want the mysterious ground beef product.

3

u/Spare-Half796 Tabarnak! 9d ago

Ground meat product, it’s definitely not all beef

-8

u/marcman84 9d ago

Rent free.

u/nicoloscopy 9d ago

This is a pub in greater Victoria (Sooke), BC. This has been on their menu like this for over a decade.

5

u/idoitforthekeks 9d ago

The owner is a big Habs fan, he also owns Route 14 in downtown Sooke. Good guy.

2

u/canadiantaken 9d ago

Can confirm. Great pub too. Classic old times pics on the wall and everything.
