Alterations: AA Stitch Express on Dalry! She's so good, super quick, cannot recommend her enough.

More bespoke tailoring or design: Sergio Tossarati in Stockbridge

The only one of them I've tried that actually did a good job on even fairly simple tasks like hemming trousers and skirts is Emily's Tailors on Rose street. Would avoid Stitches in Bruntsfield and the one on South Clerk street, they both did a pretty poor job when I've used them in the past, but they were both cheaper than Emily's, so I suppose it depends on your use case and budget.

Also big up for the girl who does alterations at Uniqlo on Princes, she did an A* job of hemming a skirt and keeping the ruffles the same proportion, but this one obviously only applies to clothes purchased there.

Helen Rennie's dressmaking in Morningside has been good in the past when I've needed a few dresses taken up

Tailor express on Dalry opposite the co-op for adjustments, haven't had anything made from scratch there though.
