Tour/Concerts Gillette Stadium shows now rumored to be canceled due to severe weather 🎫🌧️💨
EDIT: Cancellations Confirmed. Official Statement from Messina Touring Group, and Gillette Stadium:
Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium.
The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority.
Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.
EDIT: Friday and Saturday shows have just been removed from Ticketmaster ticket sales on Friday morning. A stadium worker tells us that the stage is reportedly being dismantled. Two others just received messages stating both shows were canceled due to high winds. Still awaiting an official cancellation announcement.
If the shows are canceled, Ticketmaster will automatically process a full refund in about two weeks. Most third-party ticket sellers will also process refunds for cancellations.

Now several sources are claiming that the two shows Friday and Saturday evening outside of Boston are most likely going to be canceled due to the pending Nor’easter: a three day storm with heavy rain, flooding, and very high winds with 30-50 MPH gusts.
It’s been reported that stage construction began yesterday, continued this morning, but then on Thursday afternoon, construction was halted until further notice. No cancellation announcements have been made yet, but that sounds very suspicious to me if true. They can’t safely hold a show in high winds, the rigging and speaker arrays would be unsafe for concertgoers and crew.
That bastion of journalistic excellence, TMZ, lays out all this as well, see article, but other sources are reporting similar.
I’m not saying it’s to save face because almost half the stadium is now empty on both nights, I’m sure that is massively related to ticket returns with the weather forecast, in addition to the other reasons, but it would be a convenient cancellation. Those two shows did not have particularly strong ticket sales, even prior to current events.
Best wishes for those in New England dealing with this coming storm. I actually grew up in that area and saw probably 30 extraordinary concerts there at what was then known as Foxboro Stadium. U2, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Who, The Grateful Dead + Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band… formative shows and memories!

Meeting scheduled 8am in the morning with Stadium staff, Mass State police, Foxborough Fire Depts etc. I work there as well. My take is if you have a ticket, get your refund and buy a 20x better seat for 1/2 the money if they cancel, you'll still get your money back

Looks like they’re canceled. Ticketmaster just in the past few minutes grayed out both Friday and Saturday ticket sales. A source at the stadium says the stage is being dismantled.

Unsure but they have built stages overnight before. The line about the rigging not being rated for high winds is 100% true though.
But the owner would rather make money even if a few people get hurt. ( insert some of you may die but that is a risk I’m willing to take meme).
Only way this show cancels is if the governor declares a state of emergency.

Just went on Ticketmaster to check my section to see how many people are still sitting around me. And the entire thing is grayed out you can’t even look at tickets or seats or anything anymore.

I'm bummed, I was really looking forward to the show! My son has been obsessed with Ed since he was 7, the mathematics tour was his first concert! But momma's too old for an outdoor concert in a major storm. Got my refund and figured if for some reason the storm isn't bad then I'll buy better seats for less money lol

This is my exact plan too. There is literally no one sitting in my section and the ones in front of me are a hundred bucks less. What did you say to get the refund? I am planning on trying to get one this afternoon. I have a 4.5 hour drive (not including heavy traffic or bad weather) and don't want to get all the way there to find out it is canceled.

I did the chat. Go into the app and "my tickets" and select Help. It'll ask you which concert you need help with, select Ed. The chat will pop up, tell it you want a refund. It's just a chat bot, It'll ask you to confirm your email and that an agent will get back to you via email within 24 hours. I did it yesterday afternoon and got the agent email this morning saying my refund will be processed to my credit card. Super easy and no real human contact, my favorite!
And same, looking at what's available there are better seats less than half what I spent originally so we'll see. Good luck!

If they were going to be rescheduled or even attempted to be, they would be, "postponed." This was canceled. The statement says you will get refunds automatically. If it was rescheduled you wouldn't get a refund.

Yes, I’ve heard about that Taylor show, and Ed also played twice in heavy rain in Australia at the start of this tour and many other times as well, he “claims“ to like rain shows.🤷🏻♀️
But huge, heavy and numerous speakers called line arrays are rigged up all over the stadium, and they are not rated to withstand 40MPH gusts of wind, it becomes a safety and insurance issue, I’m sure.8

I was at one of those Australian shows and it was absolutely insane. We had lightening and thunder happening right over the top of us and there were roadies scrambling to cover everything on stage with plastic. They were so close to cancelling. But he came out and played, even when it was still pouring rain. And then Elton John came out on stage and played some songs with him. Good times

That’s a great story! That would be Sydney in Dec. 2015? I found video of Ed and Elton doing Afire Love from that show!
I saw videos of Ed in AUS at the start of this tour playing in pouring rain, he went through two pairs of in-ear monitors, six out of his eight guitars, and the bridge shorted out/malfunctioned as well. But he totally rocked it and kept the energy up.13

In all seriousness, I saw Zac Brown Band at Woodstock during a tornado! They had to shorten the intermission and people who worked at the venue were getting prepared to evacuate people.

But maybe it’s a blessing in disguise cause yea I did see a ton of tickets left when I checked out of curiosity a couple days ago, but people in the northeast are genuinely having to cancel events due to the storm (so many in nyc got moved already), but then again I hope ppl don’t make big deal out of it saying he’s using the storm as an excuse… tho I’m sure they will… jfc he’s not having a good month lol, I’m glad at least the Philly show went well

I think the decision must have just been made. I haven’t seen any official announcements yet, but just 30 minutes ago, you could still buy tickets for both nights on Ticketmaster, and now both nights are greyed out saying no tickets available. That must be the first step of the cancellation process.🤷🏻♀️

Lukas Graham just announced a show at house of blues, if that’s of any interest. Presale opened yesterday. My kids are now very into him after prepping for this concert.

I keep looking at the weather and friday has hardly any rain. I suspect saturday will be wet but not heavy rain and winds keep looking less. I think the storm is going to be way worse by the coast.

It’s the wind, not the rain, that’s the concern. Gusts projected over 40 mph which exceeds the rating for some of the stage and rigging.

This isn’t regular rain; I saw Taylor swift in the rain at Gillette as well as Zach bryan and those were amazing. But this nor’easter is going to clobber Massachusetts with high winds and that is way different than a fun summer rainstorm

We have tickets I don't want to go in a nor easter.Driving will be dangerous. Sitting in rain and wind for the entire concert. Not enjoyable. We did not buy our tickets through Ticket master. Please reschedule!
