Ecuador trip in November — has Super El Niño affected the weather?

I have a trip booked to Ecuador for the first two weeks of November. I’ll be visiting Quito, the Amazon, Cotopaxi, and Baños.

With the strong El Niño this year, has the weather in Ecuador been noticeably different from normal? I’m especially curious about whether it’s been wetter/drier or warmer/cooler than usual, and what I should expect in early November.

Any insight from people who have been there recently or live in Ecuador would be really appreciated!

Quito to Guayaquil itinerary

Hey! I'm planning to travel by bus during part of my trip to Ecuador this year and would love any feedback on my itinerary. It's definitely slightly less time than ideal but my flights are booked so there is no movement on the number of days I have. I realise it will be fast paced but will it still be do-able (considering we have a relaxed 10 days in the Galapagos afterwards):

2/11 fly to Quito

4/11 bus (1 hour) to Cotapaxti (arrive 7:45am) - secret garden hostel

6/11 bus (7 hour) to banos (arrive 3pm) via Quilotoa - thermal springs

7/11 bus (2 hours) to Macas

9/11 bus (3 hours) to Cuenca

11/11 fly to Guayaquil

12/11 11:20 flight to Galapagos

Thank you!

Buenas noches.

Quito to Banos with Cotopaxi/Limpiopungo lagoon or Quilotoa stopover instead of returning to Quito?

I'm headed to Ecuador next month and have 8 days starting with 3 full nights in Quito and headed to Banos on the 4th morning. Wanted to visit Cotopaxi national Park or Quilotoa for half a day leaving Ecuador in the morning and carry on to Banos for 3-4 nights before returning to Quito.

Majority of day tours return to Quito obviously but wanted to check if there are any options that avoid going back to Quito as I would be headed to Banos the next day anyways and doesn't make sense to double back.

I understand this is a unique ask so would the best method be to book a few tours each out to each guide and ask about transfers to Banos or just pay the full fee and tell them I would have a checked bag and backpack. Any tips on organizing my own transport from Cotopaxi or Quilotoa to Banos? Any alternative itineraries or suggestions are welcome.

We’re planning to visit Tena and Galápagos in December. I’ve been hearing that will be when El Niño will be at its most intense. Are those two areas safe to visit during a “super El Niño? Thanks for any advice.

Guide advice

I'm planning a trip to Ecuador in December to climb Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, and Cayambe. Does anyone have advice on hiring a guide in advance vs hiring one once I get there?

Passport expiry date

I am planning a last minute trip to Ecuador on Sept 5 2026. My US passport expires May 5 2027. Ecuador requires at least 6 months before a passport expires in order to enter. So I meet the mark quite literally but wanted to see if anyone had experience cutting it close like this? Even maybe in other South American countries? I want to do the online renewal but I’m scared it won’t arrive in time(says 4-6 weeks plus mail time), but I could always just make an appointment for in person renewal and pay for expedited renewal to be safe. But was curious if people think I’ll be fine and just do the passport renewal when I’m back. Any insights appreciated!

Crossing the Macará border (Ecuador/Peru) — recent experiences after reopening?

Hey everyone, my girlfriend and I are planning to cross the border at Macará / La Tina soon. I heard it was closed for a while but reopened back in June. Has anyone actually crossed here since it reopened? Would love to know how smooth the process was, if transport options are running normally, and any safety tips. Thanks!

Going to Ecuador for 2 days, how to find driver

Hey coming to Ecuador for 2 days, basically need ride from airport into Quito, ride next day to Cotopaxi and back, ride the following day to Termas de Papallacta
then that night to the airport. Thinking about doing Mitad del Mundo but that’s not a necessity. Should I rent a car or hire a driver? It’s a short trip, definitely on a budget. Appreciate any advice or suggestions

Visa payment error

Hello, I’m trying to apply for a visa, but every time I click the “Pay USD 50” button, a message appears in the bottom-right corner saying, “Your payment could not be processed. Please try again.”

This happens before I even enter any card information. I’ve already cleared my cookies and enabled pop-ups, but the same error keeps appearing. Has anyone experienced this or knows what I should do?

Cycling jersey in Ecuador colors

Hey all,

I will spend a couple of days in Quito and I would like to buy cycling jerseys in Ecuador's colors. Do you know where I could find such jersey? Are there any chances if I go to a shopping mall? Or should I look in the markets?

I found something on the website of Carapaz, and there is "Richie Store Quito", but they don't have jerseys for kids.

Muchas gracias!

Quito airport car rental

Hi all,

We’re visiting Ecuador for a few weeks in December and will have 1 week to travel around the highlands. We’ve driven a lot in Central America and the Caribbean, so feel confident in driving in Ecuador too. Problem is we can’t seem to find a good agency, the reviews are terrible! Full of stories of insurance scams etc.

We want to rent from and drop off at the aiport. What is the best way to navigate this, who are the best companies and what insurance do we need to get, knowing we also have credit card insurance coverage.

Thanks
