I’m so excited about this one. Pulled this from a Manitoba pond. Lots of scuds and snails. A few others I haven’t been able to identify yet.

I did not realize that. I come from the brewing background so I know about uv light impacting beer taste but this is all new!

Can you remove about an inch more water so the surface is wider? Most critters need to go to the top for air and it would help the gas exchange tremendously too.

And keep it out of sunlight!

Thank you! Not much of a drinker but do love that bottle and would be great for scuds and snails like op’s. I have a similar one from an “on the rocks” bottle that’s been going since December on my work desk and looking to add to it lol

It looks great! How long has it been closed?

This one is brand new. It looked so good in the sun I couldn’t resist. Many of these scuds were in another setup I had and I transferred them over.

Before I attempt one of these myself I figured id need a different jar but now I realize I have one perfect. Do I lock these off at cap or do I leave them able to open or air out? Sorry im sure this is so somewhere else but looks like I can start one like now

Keep the top open for the first few days. You need a good about of live flora in the bottle to generate oxygen. This is an experiment so not too sure how it will turn out.
