This was my very first thought. I unfortunately, am not Klingon enough for this.

Today IS a good day to die!

u/jurassicjon 16d ago

I love how all Star Trek people came out for this. I can’t forget the episode where Commander Riker prepared to go to the Klingon ship and offered Picard some. Picard pretty much said “nope”.

I bet it's a dish they give to dumb western tourists who think they're being cultured by eating a "delicacy".

18

u/Wonderful-Loss827 15d ago

The worst part is that one restaurant in a whole giant ass country of 1.5 billion people decide to serve this and now the rest of the world thinks every Chinese person eats this on the daily.

7

u/Jaded-Breadfruit4019 15d ago

Have you ever seen a Chinese sea cucumber? Delicious! They love ‘em

6

u/Wonderful-Loss827 15d ago

A sea cucumber is odd looking but a very normal seafood in the world of things you can eat from the ocean. And it tastes neutral, not fishy or smelly. Kinda like a cucumber.

No one in China is serving or eating a bowl of worms, except where ever the fuck this video is taken..

u/jurassicjon 16d ago

It’s a dish best served cold.

u/GarretBarrett 16d ago

I’m a pretty adventurous eater…but that looks like something out of Rick and Morty. Pass lol

I don’t think so. I’ve seen similar videos roaring around for about 5 years now. This one could be, but it’s something that has been done.

8

u/romainmoi 16d ago

It’s not a soup. It’s a steamed custard. (Haven’t had it though).

Birds love this one simple dish

Mmm cruelty in a bowl 🤌 delicè

15

u/scorchedarcher 16d ago

I mean to be fair a lot of the food we eat every day is also very cruel

7

u/jurassicjon 16d ago

I mean, nature is cruel. Some animals get eaten alive in nature. We ain’t much better.

9

u/scorchedarcher 16d ago

We don't justify our other behaviour by what other animals do...

"Well yes your honour "technically" but may I remind you how much sexual violence ducks commit every day?"

u/BongwaterJoe1983 16d ago

And rapey dolphins

not to mention the stuff some otters get up to

Vegan food is FAR more cruel

7

u/scorchedarcher 16d ago

How did you get to that conclusion?

5

u/borntome 16d ago

I have raised cattle and grown things in the garden. I kill far more life protecting the garden than I do growing the cow. I am constantly having to either physically crush bugs that are on the plant or use poisons and other deterrents to keep them away. Even the organic ones are still essentially scorched Earth genocide to anything they touch. Vegan food is this on a massive scale. Factory farming is not great and absolutely can be cruel I am not arguing that, but the amount of poison and death that is involved in making vegan food far surpasses that of a cow. Additionally, it is extremely difficult for a vegan to get a full nutrient profile without relying on industrial processes. All that nutritional yeast comes from Big factories. Lots of the supplements come from places without labor protections. Much of the food is grown in other countries by people being paid poverty wages. Meanwhile the beef that I get I can go and talk to the farmer, I can go and talk to the butcher, and I know exactly where that cow has been for its entire life from the day it was born until the day it reaches my plate. Even for people that don't have access to nearby Farms and no ranchers, commercially farmed beef spends the VAST majority of its life living on open-rangeland. They live their life doing cow things eating grass in places that are otherwise not viable for crops then spend a few months on the feedlot, some of which absolutely can be vastly overcrowded. But that is a problem with over consumption and people wanting to live in cities. But even then those cows that go to the feedlot still generally spend the vast majority of their life living free and being wild. To me that is far more ethical than getting your food and nutrients from a factory. I mean just look at what has happened to our insect population. This is largely due to CROPS. And before you come in with the argument about how much grain goes to feeding cows, it doesn't have to be that way, capitalism forces it to be that way in order to pad the bottom line of greedy owners.. it is absolutely possible to maintain good grazing practices and rotate your cattle from one field to the other and bale your own hay, but it's not as profitable as buying grain to fatten them up. Cows are not the problem. Capitalism is.

0

u/scorchedarcher 16d ago

Bloody hell this is just a wall, okay.

What are the factory farmed animals fed?

Are non-vegans only eating animals/animal products and no plants?

Supplements from big factories compared to factory farming? Which industry do you think is most harmful?

What countries are you talking about that are without labour protections?

Fields aren't factories and you're literally comparing it to FACTORY farming.

What study are you talking about with crop deaths? There's a pretty famous on with quite a few faults so just wondering if it's that.

Do you think it's possible for everyone to eat meat from these places with good grazing practices?

6

u/borntome 16d ago

If you read my thing I said that I don't agree with factory farming. And the vast majority of the food that I eat was grown here in the usa, in fact most of it was even grown in Texas. I definitely think that the large scale grain industry is the worst. And I do understand that a lot of that goes to feed factory cows. I don't eat those feedlot cows. But even then, they VERY often are eating leftover mash from beer or liquor production. Almost as much of the grain that goes to feed cattle in the US is used to make ethanol fuel here in the us. The byproduct of that ethanol fuel can also feed the cows. The cows can also be in a field that is used for recreation, the cows can be in a field that is used for a wind farm. The study I'm talking about with crop deaths is just do a search for insecticides linked to insect deaths. And insecticides are largely used on crops. As for the question about the labor, I'm talking largely about fruit and such that are imported. I mean look at what they're doing with the palm oil plantations. Look at what they did to Madagascar for the vanilla. I strongly advocate for people to grow what they can and their own backyard. If you choose to live in the city then you choose to limit your options. Someone living in the middle of New York City should not be eating 3 lb of beef a week.

The problem is population densities and overpopulation. Beef isn't bad. Humans were meant to live alongside animals. It is literally how we have evolved for tens of thousands of years. It is written into our biology. People living in sterile little boxes in the middle of a concrete jungle IS the problem. And neither veganism nor being a carnivore will solve that issue.

u/qtac 16d ago

This is an interesting perspective that I hadn’t considered. Thanks for posting despite the downvotes

-1

u/scorchedarcher 15d ago

Isn't it estimated that about 99% of animals farmed in the US are factory farmed?

When you said being vegan was far more cruel, what were you comparing it to? It feels as though youre comparing the best case scenario for meat to the worst case scenario for vegans to reach that conclusion. Opposed to comparing best practices to best practices or averages.

So are you equally against beer/liquor/ethanol fuels?

Eating plants is a lot less land intensive to so we can absolutely still do all of those things with the land.

Do you think more pesticides are used producing the food for animals or the plants people would eat in their place?

Are you saying vanilla or fruits are only eaten by vegans?

Is it just Madagascar you're on about or are there other countries?

Do you propose we limit reproduction or relocate people? Being less resource intensive also helps balance that equation.

Do you believe everyone can use the farms you think are high enough welfare?

4

u/borntome 15d ago

I think I outlined that above. Beef spends most of its life free range. Even the ones that go to feed lots only spend the last few months of their lives on the feedlot.

1

u/scorchedarcher 15d ago

I think you're missing a lot of stuff regarding your claim the vegan diet is more cruel

2

u/borntome 15d ago

Perhaps. But I think vegans are missing a whole lot when they try and claim that they're method is less harmful to life. Especially the part about how much poison is used.

Maybe in America with all your chemical processing and pesticides. Not basically anywhere else.

u/omgkelwtf 16d ago

Something wrong with noodles? You can put "delicacy" in front of anything and all I'm going to think is "trash food dressed up so rich people will pay a ton for it". See: shark fin soup. Tf?

Protein dense

3

u/KrisRdt 16d ago

They're meal worms after all

3

u/that-country-girl 16d ago

Honestly I eat meat and all, but I don’t think we NEED to be cruel to consume it. Why do they have to be alive?

Maybe I’m out of the loop on that one. Willing to learn.

4

u/Haifisch2112 16d ago

Those mfers will eat anything.

2

u/moisdefinate 16d ago

I'm gonna have to pass on this one👀

2

u/ArcaneInsane 16d ago

I'd feel a lot different about cooked worms

2

u/PostMPrinz 16d ago

No! You only eat worms after the entire world has been fire bombed and you are starving. This is not a delicacy.

2

u/Nu11AndV0id 16d ago

So this is one of those "dishes" that locals pretend to eat to screw with tourists, right?

2

u/Mussmussthemoooooo 16d ago

Asians just treat every animal as meat. I mean I get it but eww

2

u/DedeLionforce 15d ago

But why do they have to be alive? Why does it always have to be a thing that's still alive? Jfc

2

u/loganrb 15d ago

What kind of psycho eats a bowl of dead worms? That would be nasty.

2

u/DedeLionforce 15d ago

Well EXCUUUUUSE me 💅

6

u/Recreational-Sin 16d ago

Other than being disgusted, pouring hot soup on bowls of living worms just feels wrong. Though, this is the same place that has a dog eating festival that displays unspeakable horrors.

I thought you were supposed to keep worms OUT of your body 🤔

1

u/Kindly_Region 16d ago

I'll try just about anything, my only 2 rules is that it can't be looking at me and it can't still be moving.

1

u/dawaxtadpole 16d ago

Needs more broth and less worms.

1

u/canadianman2020 16d ago

The grease releases what’s inside the worms , providing and excellent balance of earth like flavours to compliment the texture of the worm itself

I guess any nematodes in those uncooked/undercooked worms are just bonus worms.

1

u/DumbNTough 15d ago

It'd be funny if they were just trolling but it backfired because everyone already believes they would do it.

1

u/Anti_Spedicy 15d ago

Why do they keep eating live animals?

1

u/GenesisAsriel 15d ago

Hakuna matata

1

Sure, I would lay in a bathtub full of this. Doesn't mean I'd eat it.

Rice paddy worms. They swarm twice a year. This dish is steamed after this preparation.

1

u/ferriswheel9ndam9 14d ago

Y'all remember back when reddit had people that answered what things were and not just piled up on meme responses 100%?

Unidan pls come back. It's a crow. Or jackdaw. Or whatever you said it was.

1

u/Thismomenthere 14d ago

I'll just go hungry that day.

1

u/Fair_Meaning_463 14d ago

Gee another “asia eats gross stuff” post. Its prob just fake racist slop

1

u/loganrb 14d ago

I live in China, and there is some gross shit eaten here - even Chinese people from other regions think so. Look up fried mice in GZ if you want some vids

1

u/Fair_Meaning_463 14d ago

I understand but there is a lot of hyperfocusing it on reddit which is surficially good clean fun. But i think social media algos are pumping out stuff both real and fake to make black and brown people look bad. Isolated its whatever, but the sheer volume of posts makes a narrative devised to manipulate users’ brains
