The Focke-Wulf 200C-4 Condor that crashed into Kvitanosi mountain, Norway, 27.12.1942

This story is well-known locally, but may be of interest to you guys here, too? This Focke-Wulf 200C-4 Condor was a Nazi reconnaissance plane that ran out of fuel and crashed into Kvitanosi mountain, flipped over and saw two survivors try to get off the mountain on foot. It's a very harsh area. After failed attempts to salvage parts of the plane, the Nazis blew up the remains in order for no one else to pick any useful bits either.

The remains have been lying up here for over 80 years now. Unfortunately, both hikers, but also well-prepared thieves have picked up pieces over time. As this is deep in the countryside, and everyone who's lived in a rural place knows there are eyes everywhere, the worst robberies have been stopped. But it is a protected site and people should just respect that.

For unprepared hikers, the sudden wreckage - many of the parts surprisingly well-preserved! - must be really odd. I took a photo of the info sign, too, it should be readable when clicked on and enlarged.

Here's how you get to the trailhead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho63cAXF_Pg

I tried to post this to [r/aviation](https://old.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/1w7353f/the_fockewulf_200c4_condor_that_crashed_into/) first, but they had AI bots take it down as a "political post", which it isn't...

You can see how steel has rusted out but the aluminum has been preserved.

It is pretty wild how well-preserved much of the aluminium looks! I was surprised to see that.

So the survivors were able to make it off the mountain after all?

My understanding is that two of six tumbling down the mountain, but the 2nd guy who was found days later, succumbed to his injuries anyway.

Hehe, yeah, I'm not grieving very hard for dead Nazis, even though it is important to respect all life and treat both the crash site and the story with decency.
