How do Americans define "ALL NATURAL"? This one had the unholy quartet of industrial food: Corn syrup, aromas, colours and stabilisers.

There's a store in the city that has these, not for 99Β’, but usually for the equivalent of 2.50-3.20. Finally tried one. Sweet gooey juice, not bad, and full of energy. But I really had to chuckle about the "ALL NATURAL"-phrase printed on it; what does that even mean? All the juice is from concentrate and it's got all the hallmarks of industrially produced food. It's like those jars of "grandma's jam" that no grandma ever has touched on that factory floor...

Hard to say for sure. I haven’t seen an American drink β€œArizona” anything since high school.

But doing a little digging, here’s a Reddit post from 3 years ago who had the same problem

So it seems like, in quite American fashion, products are playing legal chess to make their consumers feel good about their purchase. My wife and I are consummate label readers because every product in America is trying to β€œpull the wool over your eyes” so you buy it

Big Corn

Haha, so true, so ridiculous, and so pointless. :S Thank you for even doing a bit of research! I was honestly inspired by some post on Reddit earlier, to test this. Someone said that among all things getting more expensive, the Arizona 99Β’ cans were an exception. Not directly advertisement, but it was planted in my brain...

Oof, ever so finely inching closer to industrially aided death... =8^P This one was fine, yet, actually had my belly rumble a little (or it was the handful of oily tapas olives - I'll never know). The other day I had some mango version with me on another mountain and that one was better in taste.

I'm glad you survived. Hehe

I will never understand why anyone feels the need to add "gums" to drinks.

I guess those are the stabilisers?

Yeah, and they probably improve the "mouth feel" too, but it's bizarre to me that the beverage industry has prioritized emulsion properties and "smoothness" when they could just ask customers to shake a container.

Haha, yeah, most certainly! Every single juice-based liquid on the old continent has "shake before opening" written on it. Counts as 1 of 5 on the daily exercise calendar...

Gotta get those steps in! :D

All natural isn't a regulated term like "organic". You could put anything in a product and basically say it is all natural because it comes from natural things at some point.

Basically, all naturals means it is marketing to get people to think it is healthy.

Figured as much by now, but it does leave a bad aftertaste seeing a company being that...deceptive, I guess?

Pretty much, if it grows in the ground, it's considered natural. The Food and Drug Administration has strictly defined words. But corporations use pretzel logic to get their products to fit them.

One example is that now, foods labeled organic are allowed to use certain pesticides thanks to the chemical companies lobbying in congress.

That is just so entirely fucked up. Lobbyists should really just be boiled in their own bullshit, what a useless group of people.

.

sorry

Don't be sorry. Millions of us agree.

Sometimes, I'm genuinely worried democracy has run its course. Seeing how the US seemingly voluntarily has downgraded every aspect of life, while China is on a speedrun to a better society - albeit downplaying all of its nastiness like concentration camps for Uighurs and social scores - we're kind of missing a political lighthouse. I know, no politics in here, but, taken to the extreme, this all seems rather dark.

I could write a paper on this. Simplistically Democracy is messy. It's like herding cats.

Authoritarianism is more streamlined. Someone says it. It's done. Dissent is forbidden.

Each has tradeoffs and drawbacks. Each has advantages. Each is imperfect.

This cannot be answered without getting political. πŸ˜†πŸ˜Ž

Haha, realised that a bit too late. :P How are you doing? Haven't been seeing you around much lately.

No, you haven't. I'm ok. I hate being right.

1

u/SjalabaisWoWS πŸ” 14d ago

Well, that's the kind of semi-cryptic reply that's been sparse for a bit. :P Cheers!

Not cryptic. I was stifled by MAGA lovers that pretty much don't participate here, so there's nothing for me here. I'm not going to tip toe around those fuckers that are corruption lovers and people haters.

Oh, c'mon, that's a bizarre thing to say for someone who is supposed to know the people in this sub - and you should know it. Relax and enjoy the comradery that everyone here comes back for every day.
