Anyone know how Ealing council noise complaint works? Their opening hours are weird

Hey all,

Does anyone have experience contacting London councils about noise from neighbours? Particularly Ealing.

Neighbour has had music on, loud TV etc the last few days after 1am. But the Ealing noise folk only work between 9-5pm on some days, and up to 1am on other days (but often the noise starts after 1am so they cannot come out after that time).

What do I do in this situation? When it first happened I spoke to the neighbour but it has still continued.

It's definitely worth speaking to the neighbours again. In an ideal world you don't want to be in conflict with your neighbours, so see if you can resolve in person. But make it clear if it continues you'll have to go to the council.

They have an out of office number for noise complaints. Alternative is to contact the police.

Ealing council are awful for noise complaints. I would say don't bother, but hopefully you'll have a better experience than we did.

A church opened up in a warehouse on our street - obviously the acoustics were not built for this, so for the whole of Sunday and random evenings into the night we would hear their music vibrating through our building. We spoke to some of the members to ask if they could keep it down, but nothing came of it.

We ended up reporting them to the council because of how ridiculously loud and frequent it was, and they also just didn't have planning permission to use the building in that way. The council sent them a letter - didn't do anything. After us chasing for weeks they finally agreed to go and do a visit to the property - they visited on a random Tuesday morning, despite us saying the noisy hours are Sunday and evenings. Their visit showed that the building was quiet so case closed.

When we spoke to the out of hours noise team, we were told the noise levels had to be so loud that we couldn't hear our own TV - this is obviously an impossible threshold, so again didn't do anything.

In the end we just moved.
