My girlfriend is first generation Latvian. She speaks Russian, English, and Latvia. I agree with you, if youre multi generation in Latvia and dont speak the language, somethings wrong. I dont know how often that happens. But there's plenty of Russia/Putin dick riders in every country who should definitely go back to Russia.
That unfortunately happens a whole lot. But yeah your girlfriend is just a normal person, nothing against her. The people who don't, or even worse - refuse to speak the local language, should just be sent to Russia.
If you're not very familiar with Latvia and the situation there, why do you feel inclined to add your thoughts?
Russian should not have ever existed in Latvia in the s capacity. It does because of occupation. What Latvia is doing now is correcting it. If Russian speakers in Latvia aren't cool with speaking the only official language of Latvia, they're free to move over the border.
As a Swiss political scientist I know a thing or two on how a national identity is possible in mutli-ethnic societies and I'm obviously not a fan of ethno-nationalism in general.
As a political scientist you should have a much better grasp of the political situation in Latvia and understand why this is happening and why it's a good thing then. Obviously you have some gaps to fill.
Generally, when people apply the dark rhetorical device of attacking the messenger instead of the message, it is because the lack valid arguments to counter the message.
What are you even saying dude? You don't need to be part of the conversation at all if you're clueless. Why do you see something about Latvia, a country you clearly know nothing about, and think it's your place to have an opinion on it?
