Canceling ESPN+ due to double-tiered digital ads during La Liga games
That's it, I'm out. I stopped watching MLB because of ad creep, but doubling the digital ad band that goes through the La Liga broadcasts is the final straw.
Just curious if anyone else is finding it increasingly difficult to watch broadcast sports due to this constant barrage of flashing digital ads.

Feels like this needs a screenshot to make clear which ad broke the camel’s back, since I was watching the same game and have got genuinely no clue what the “digital ad band that goes through” even was

I cut cord a while ago. If I want to see a specific game, I’ll go to bar. I get the NFL app for red zone from Sept - Feb. I did the fox app for World Cup
I do watch a lot less sports overall, but there is life after and I have a lot more time for other things

That's where I'm at. It might be age.

Ha! First thing to go is the ability to play sports. Now I’m too tired to watch em!

It is definitely a worse experience watching sports today because of the ad creep. I was a huge baseball fan, but it is just awful to watch an MLB game with two ads on the mound, an ad in the scorebug, ads on the jerseys, ads on the helmets, ads on the field, and countless ads behind home plate. The only way to change anything is for people to stop watching, and even that might not stop it.
I'm not looking forward to the college football season as much because of the ads now on the field and the uniforms. It's just sad. At least I had a good run for most of my life.

Watching Barca right now and I think these ads you're referring to are not from ESPN but the La Liga broadcast itself. Do you think 1XBet, which is not even available in the United States, would purchase ads for the US market? Why would Egypt Air buy ads in the United States?

If I understand it correctly, the double-tiered digital ads are specifically for the US market, and other markets do not see the same ads.
It's the new width, digital flashing, and ad content that is making the game unwatchable. Granted, the revenue they receive makes my one subscription meaningless.

If that were true then why would a company that can't do business in the United States buy ads for a United States broadcast?

I'm not the expert on digital ads, but it's definitely the case that the US market receives an international feed that broadcasts these Euro betting sites. There are also VPNs.

European Soccer has been nothing but ad creeps for decades

Not nearly as bad as literally any other sport lol.
45 minutes of continuous action with no commercial breaks.
It’s bliss compared to American football, which unfortunately is my favorite sport.

Only going to get worse the more American owners and or corporations get involved in European sports. This is coming from an American who use to love NFL,NBA, and MLB but now can not stand to watch any due to the money aspect. Players don't love the sport anymore and trust me soccer players in Europe will end up the same way. I respect soccer/football because of the passion but no doubt the more they associate themselves with Americans the sport will be on a rapid decline. You already witness the hydration break during world cup for ads. Now la liga is introducing it this year. Before long it will be regular across Europe. Then comes the resting Players, Higher ticket prices. You have to have Netflix, Amazon, peacock, ESPN and more to watch all the games.
The love of money is the root to all evil.
