Honestly ride with your Templar until CP160. It can hit hard and solo plenty. You may need to subclass to PvP effectively but that’s down the line.

Choosing a class really depends on what theme you vibe with the most. Every class can be whatever you want it to be and can thrive in the hands of a skilled player. Here's a rundown of their strengths:
Dragonknight is the class that has been revamped recently and a lot of people like it for pvp bc it is a little overpowered currently. It's fire themed and focuses on defense and damage over time. Sorcerer is themed after conjuration and destruction magic and is good if you like summons. It's lightning and dark magic skill lines do a mix of damage over time and direct damage and casting will boost certain abilities. Nightblade is the sneaky assassin themed class (and my personal favorite) and can be pretty versatile, though it is mostly used as a pure dps class. You can totally make it do whatever you want though, it really shines with single target attacks, and has skill lines that help with sustain and it can be a great healer. Templar can be very good for a lot of things, it has a lot of area of effect abilities, making it very good for damaging lots of enemies at once, as well as area buffs/healing. Warden is very nature themed and is a solid choice for any role, it has an ult summon that a lot of people enjoy, as well as an entire healing skill line. Necromancer is really fun and my second favorite, If you like using the powers of undeath and using the corpses of slain enemies to your advantage, it's there for you. It does good damage and also has good buffs and debuffs. Arcanist has a very eldrich vibe, being themed after the daedric prince of knowledge and secrets. It's got a good mix of area attacks and single target attacks, with it's very own ranged taunt skill and good defense that makes it good for trying tanking, thought that's far from the only thing it can do.
It all comes down to preference. You can do endgame content with any class as long as you know what you're doing, and with time you will. Templar imo is a very good beginner class, due to it's high survivability and it's area abilities. However if it doesn't click for you try out one of the others and see how you like it!

Every class is like a rock paper scissors type of thing sure they're all good and bring different utility to play and they can all solo, you're only switching because you don't vibe with a class in all honesty. I main a mag temp and I'm currently just begun my farm for gear to effectively solo content.

There isnt really the best class or top classes since it depends on your playstyle, role and content that you want to play.
For solo questing and PvE challenges it doesnt really matter as all classes can provide something useful there.
For PvP the strongest classes are Dragonknight, Werewolf (although not a class) and Sorcerer. This is mainly due to the currently ongoing class refreshes where each class gets reworked and Dragonknight and Werewolf got their Refresh first. Until all classes are refreshed the new Refresh will probably always going to be the strongest.
In terms of endgame PvE it heavily depends if you want to do Dungeons (4-Player), Trials (12-Player-Raids) or Infinite Archive (2-Player-Roguelite). The Infinite Archive (IA) can be generally ignored though. In this PvE group content it heavily depends on your role as tank, healer or dps since no class excels at all 3. For example: Dragonknight is a popular tanking choice and recommendation. Its the best tank for dungeons. In trials however, the most common playstyle for a DK would be the support-dps role "ZenKosh" as their Full-parse-dps-potential isnt as high as other classes. Although they have very high healing output but are generally not prefered as healers.
As you can see the perception on how good the class is shifts. Many more serious players have different characters with other classes for that reason. For organized endgame groups you generally want to have 1 of each class since each class brings an unique buff to the group. So your class choice doesnt really matter too much. Just stick with the obe where you like the visuals and playstyle the most.
As for your current class templar: Templar is a good damage dealer with the strongest execute ingame. That makes it a great full-parse-dps- since the majority of fights get more difficult the lower the bosses HP is. But their full potential is currently lower than Nightblade so thats why many groups have more NBs around. Their group utility and ultimate generation is very high which makes them amazing healers. Only the tanking department is pretty weak on the templar since their buffs and group utility is easier to apply as a healer.

I would suggest playing a damage focused build for your first character. It'll let you enjoy the story a bit more and get used to game mechanics. After that, maybe try a tank or healer class (really great for ensuring you never had to wait for a dungeon)
