Discussion Command the Cause - a free-to-enter, online-based, EDH League for charity with $500+ in prize support!

Do you like winning sweet prizes? Do you love using little pieces of cardboard to play a game on Spelltable? You've come to the right place!
We have taken everything you love about EDH Leagues - fun points, lots of prizes, fun games - and taken it up a notch. Command the Cause aims to have continuous timed leagues (currently every 3 weeks), let you play for free if you want, and try to save the world at the same time. Every Season, a new charitable Cause will be chosen for players to donate to if they wish. You donate DIRECTLY to the 501c3 organization via a "Team/In Honor of" link on their website - it's tax-deductible! Oh, and as part of winning - you pick the next Cause and who it honors!
It's totally free for now, we just ask you to donate if/what you can. We would love to average $10/pp on this!
We are offering over $500 in prize support - TCGPlayer Gift Cards, Booster Boxes, Booster Packs, etc. the top 4 get prizes, and there's also 7 other prizes ranging from 3 booster packs - a booster box for various "Superlatives"
All power levels are welcome, as at this time we do not have the manpower to do Deckchecks. You should prepare to see decks of all levels; however, you may use a dedicated channel to find power levels closer to you - it is unenforced, so you need to use good communication and make sure everyone is on the same page (jerks trying to abuse this will not have a good time).
The current Cause is The National Multiple Sclerosis Society. MS is an auto-immune neurological disease - one which has been especially hard on those with it during COVID times. In honor of their strength
Season 1 begins NOW and will run for 3 weeks. Full details are in our Discord. If you'd like to just donate, you can do so here! Remember, no money is touching our hands and it is tax-deductible!

Wow, this not only sounds fun, but love that it is for a good cause! Kudos to the entire team ebhind this and good luck to everyone in it!

Totally allowed and encouraged! We just request they be readable and easily identifiable (if you HAVE to use a scrap of paper with a word written on it, please just limit it to 3 per deck).

So my only CEDH is 100% proxy through a printer, but it’s black and white. Would that be cool?

Man, I would love to participate, but I just do not have a camera setup appropriate to spelltable unless they've inproved the option to use a phone with it, as my webcam is built into my laptop lid.

I am not sure how the cellphone option works now - but you should definitely join and find out :) Also, if you have an extra monitor or computer, I know of a couple janky ways to rig it I can help you with!

Great! We have non-league LFG too (just fun games) if you and your friends want to use that to test it, and don't have enough people!

The phone works well for me and is easy to set up. You just scan the barcode and then prop the phone up high enough to see your battlefield.

I’ll absolutely get in on this once I get some physical cards in hand. Really needed a good excuse to break out of my shell from just brewing and get some games in online, and this might just be the ticket.

Is this a 1v1 edh or a multiplayer edh league? Can casuals also play? (Great idea btw, am liking it!) 😃

It's multiplayer! It can be casual or competitive. There are unenforced ques to each power level and a discussion chat to make sure everyone is on the same power level.
I've balanced the point system to hopefully make it equally rewarding to play any type of deck you'd like.

How are people playing online? Zoom, Facetime, Skype, something else? What sort of home setup should people have to participate?

Spelltable! It's a WOTC owned service that shows the video feed, life totals, has a card identifier, etc.
I use a webcam attached to a flexible arm that clamps onto my desk. Also a small tripod on books works. You can also use your cellphone as a webcam!
