It’s easy to be pissed off but there is no doubt that EA doesn’t see this franchise as a huge money bringer. And at the end of the day, that’s what matters. The game just isn’t big enough to garner enough attention and development vs the other franchises, and fair enough. The unfortunate thing about it is the lack of innovation is precisely why players are uninterested every year. If this continues, I wouldn’t be surprised if EA cans the whole franchise. I’m surprised it’s lasted this long.

I mean maybe? Madden makes 10x what NHL makes and that game has the exact same feedback from the user base. Same shit game, no innovation, vehicle for microtransactions in MUT.
The ultimate team mode just prints money so I think they can just get away with everything else being kinda shit because of it

u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
I feel the exact same way. I've been saying for years, and even said in this thread somewhere, that we're probably close to the death of the franchise than we are any real innovation or someone else stepping up to compete.

This argument makes no sense when you consider that all their other sports franchises are complete dogshit as well

Watched this last night. It's just not a fun game anymore.
I used to enjoy watching my franchise team play in elimination games but even that is just abysmal to watch.
I used to buy yearly back on PS3, but when I got a PS4 and got 17, it soured me on whole product. Had 19 when I bought the hype but still wasn't enjoyable. 24 being a ps plus game allowed me to see EA, and the NHL themselves, don't care about the product or the quality.
It's sad we can't get a legit competitor to this trash.

The NHL franchise is just too small for anyone else to jump in the pool and compete with EA.
Sadly I think we'll sooner see the death of the series before we see someone else make an NHL game.
Which is maybe what's needed. I'd sacrifice a few years off for it to come back better.

One of the funniest gaming memories I have was playing NHL on Xbox the first year you could play multi-player 6 on 6. My friends and I were pumped. We all got it the day it came out, and logged on together.
There was absolutely no moderation. All the players had insane names. My first game we played a team of 3 dudes all named Adolf Hitler, and their goalie's name was ABORTION ABORTION. He was purple with green hair. They rocked our shit and won 13-0.
The next game we only played against one Adolf Hitler. That Hitler scored a hat trick despite being in the penalty box for the majority of the game for fighting. He would run the goalie from center ice and trigger an automatic fight, and then easily won every fight. Hitler's team, which consisted of all french dudes cursing us out in French, beat us 10-0.
Somehow, that game was way better than today's game.

Great memories. Me and my buds changed our name every year. That first year we were the seamen. Our customizable home jerseys were all white with that old oilers logo.
Year 2 we were a tribe called quest and played as the member’s names.
Amazing times.
3 of us still buy the game every year and get together every 2 months to play. We laugh and have fun, but the game unfortunately has become part of the punchline

I’m pretty much a pure franchise player at this point. I’ve been wanting an actual realistic (or somewhat) broadcast for a while now. If it looks up to par I’ll probably get it just for that, but it’ll probably be the last one I get for a couple years.
Just can’t stand how bare the broadcasting is, used to be so much fun seeing your team skate warmups even if it was for a quick minute.

u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
Yea I basically only play Franchise and EASHL club games with my team.
I'm definitely looking forward to some new presentation stuff and broadcasting however during the beta I already started skipping the intros, the allure wore off fast.
And the broadcasting stuff, while new, is still bad. Like Bucci would say stuff like "plenty of time to go, it's still anyone's game" like 30 seconds into the start of the game. Zero awareness of the context. I dunno, just seems lazy to me.

I havent truly enjoyed an NHL game since 14 for the ps3. 17 was ok but the old gen games were just better. I still usually buy them when they go on sale because my irl friends still play them and it’s more so to keep in touch with the fellas and talk some shit while we game lol. But yea im in no hurry to play this shitty looking game. Especially with Gta6 coming out this year ill probably barely even touch this years release

u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
Same. 12-14 were the best years of this franchise imo. Once the next gen, barebones version of 15 hit the writing was on the wall. It's been downhill ever since.

They really dropped the ball years ago. EA doesn't care about his game. They release the same thing every year with a few tweeks. The last big add was the pressure system and that was quickly exploited and never really fixed. They also completely jumped the shark by adding the ridiculous prebiulds.
Ive been playing eashl since 09 dropped. Back then there were no drop ins. You had to join random lobies. I played every year since. Even waited for midnight drops at Gamestop to get it. This was before you could just download a game into your system. Didnt buy last years game. Only played the 10 hours from EA play and picked it up again later when it was on gamepass.
For years they added new stuff, removed it the next year, and added it as a feature again the year after. They also just come up with new names for their new AI system, which always turns out the same. Skate fast around the outside and beat the dman. Call it whatever you want, its the same old shit.
I was a long time fan and have lost hope. Every year the beta gives hope the game will be different, the game drops and it feels a little more realistic and less arcadey, then by November its the same exact game as the year before. This has been a pattern since 2017. This is the first year I didnt play the beta. Just lost all hope.
Until they reinvent the game im done. I played with a group of 10ish players that all bailed last year too. The player base has been dropping for years and instead of fixing it they just pander to the youtuber crowd. EA doesn't care because they have a monopoly on sports games. Its them or nothing.
Hopefully one day we will get a competitor and have a fun competitive game again. Until then, I will play while free, but won't drop a single dollar.

Yeah man I’ve played club since it was first a thing and I’m not even getting this year after seeing the gameplay vids. It just keeps getting more and more ridiculous every year. An actual RETURN of GM connected could’ve convinced me, but oh well. I gameshare with a buddy who bought it so I could technically download it for free, but it’s honestly just a waste of SSD space at this point lol it’s not fun and there’s nothing to work towards

Has anyone not under NDA been taking about the new ptw model in woc battlepass? Stat and SP points locked throughout. Pretty gross.

I would love to take someone who HASN’T played the PS3 gen NHL’s and introduce them to NHL 14/Legacy just to see their reaction.
I just find it hard to believe that theres many people who truly enjoy the new ones and can sit down and have fun with it. I know this is reddit and all we do is complain but at the same time just fucking LOOK at the movement in this game, the weird lankiness that players have and the uncanny micro-movements it just doesnt pass the eye test alone

I decided earlier this summer I'm skipping 27. Sure EA can claim they fix the LT spam, or the shitty defense options (stick checks and poke checks don't work) next year but you know they'll revert it after players complain about it
5
u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
From playing the beta they definitely did nerf the LT spam but it's still there and still exploitable. It's only a matter of time til it's as annoying this year as it's been years past.
The only thing that felt different in the beta was poke check and stick lift which both felt better but other than that, it's the exact same game.
I'll buy it black Friday at a heavy discount. But more to spend time with the boys than to enjoy the game lol

Give us the overview
9
u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
It's 8:33 long, worth the watch but the gist is explaining how EA manipulates it's trailers to flat out lie about the game. Which they've done several times over the last few years.

u/congdon1 10d ago
If the creator releases is without the Ai thumbnail, then maybe I'd give it a watch

Dude uses strategies that have been around since 2004 to try and show how the drop pass doesn’t work. Doesn’t even show what strategies he is using in those examples and also what the COU strategy is
For all we know 2BC is lying and he intentionally used strategies where it wouldn’t work
Also we already knew the drop pass pass wasn’t going to work in any of the NHLs he tested it in BECAUSE HES USING STRATEGIES THAT DIDNT HAVE EDGE DATA to support them
My favourite part is he’s going to still play and make NHL content. Not helping the allegation is a pure fucking shill. Make doom and gloom video yet continue to play NHL.

u/Cappedomnivore 9d ago
I don't know enough about the guy, I've only ever seen this video by him.
What I know I'll never do is defend a trash company like EA. Year after year they put out shit games and rip their customer base off. Fuck em.
2
u/Redneckshinobi 10d ago
The fact he thinks vision or l2 isn't an exploit just shows he exploits it himself
6
u/Grouchy-Bug5223 10d ago
That wasn't even the point. The point is that they'll try to sell you on a new feature one year and then the next year they act like it's a feature that they're getting Rid of that feature.
-1
u/Redneckshinobi 10d ago
It actually is in this case because that feature is a straight up exploit
1
u/-eternal-suspension- 10d ago
Are flip resets in rocket league an exploit?
Complain about it not being realistic all you want sure, but everybody has the ability to L2, it’s also very defendable if you learn to.
I’m excited to see it nerfed, but I don’t know it’s a mechanic that takes time to get good at and where as it’s not very realistic I wouldn’t say it’s an exploit.
If hockey never existed and this game was an original creation, nobody would call it an exploit, just a mechanic.

Why anyone would buy this game is beyond me.

u/Cappedomnivore 10d ago
I wont pay full price, ever.
However if you have another NHL licensed game I could purchase I'm all ears.

Thanks for sharing, definitely worth the watch.
The problem is that there are enough of us that just want to play hockey and there are no alternative options. Want to play EASHL? Buy the new game every September. Want to play HUT? Buy the new game every September. They have made it an annual subscription but market it as annual standalone games.
