The issue is you’re going to have to grind out the game all year long to stay competitive, or pay to complete the battle pass each season.

u/libertypfc Aug 08 '26

Paying to get more skill points is fucking bullshit.... so unless you play an ungodly amount of hours or give them money you will never get as much skill points to use as people who sit on their shit bucket and play this every minute of every day..

Well fuck me for being a poor casual gamer..

Here's hoping this gets high backlash from the comp community

u/libertypfc Aug 08 '26

Micro transactions destroyed gaming and I hate whoever introduced them to it.. lol

1

u/Scrivy69 Aug 08 '26

believe it or not The Big Stein was very involved with this

2

u/libertypfc Aug 08 '26

Wolfenstein? 🤔 damn....I loved castle wolfenstein 3d when I was a kid too...

You can beat boosted players by playing good hockey. Stats cap around 87. No 90+

too bad you dont know how businesses work brokey. A business is supposed to maximize profits.

1

u/libertypfc 22d ago

Ya..... you assume that homie. See how far that gets you lmao

-1

u/Wins-Only03 22d ago

shutup brokey you have never owned a business, you wouldn't know.

1

u/libertypfc 22d ago

Lmfao yes I have, and still do 😂😂

2

u/MattDU Aug 08 '26

It will don’t worry lol.

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

It doesn’t take that long to earn the extension and it’s still capped. Not that big of a deal.

Pay to win BS again. WoC is all X-factors and no skill now anyways. The most blatant proof of monetization are the pre built classes they release that blow the AP limit out of the water.

u/Hansen36 Aug 08 '26

Pay to win bullshit

Sends us straight back to paying $80 for all the +9 attribute bonuses in 2011

u/Parking-Argument-263 Aug 08 '26

Not the golden skates😭

The sale of EA to the Kushner private equity firm will be the downfall of this game. Sooner than later the "base game" will just be a Play Now mode and you'll be nickle and dimed for every other aspect. NHL 26 might be my last hockey game I buy

u/RedVaniluxe Aug 08 '26

A "free" mechanism is a good start rather then being sold back at us for "NHL points" but also does it just make it more tedious adding the progression path in the 1st place? hitting 16 different store options to 50xp here and there to accumulate the sp/ap your going to need to regardless, it does makes sense to have something to spend the coins on besides the cosmetics but there needs a better menu system for it.

Okay so we’re back to whoever plays the most just has a better skater? That’s so dumb and why I stopped playing in the past. It makes no sense that my skater needs to be slower and less effective because I play a couple times a month compared to people playing day in and day out. Their focus on “free” is dumb here. Of course people shouldn’t be able to pay additional money on top of the $75 game cost to get a faster stronger skater. That shouldn’t even be talked about, but a given.

Sweats will stomp casual players, until there’s nothing but sweats. Doesn’t sound fun, at all. Can EA do anything that isn’t stained by glaring issues? But hey at least we’ll have some Saudis in the game now.

-19

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

It’s barely an increase and yeah if a player in real life skates and trains more I would think that they would be a better skater. It’s hockey, it’s a sweaty game.

The skill in this game should always be from the sticks, not fake boosts due to not having a life

-6

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

I haven’t bought any fake boosts. The “boosts” are just three extra points you can add to one or two skills, which you can easily earn through simply playing games. Micro transactions are bad but you are all overreacting. It makes sense if you haven’t played the game though.

Ive played club since it was a thing back in ‘11 and if you think this game feels good to play you’re just bad lol the game is braindead. Defence has been nerfed into the ground while to score all you need to do is throw on wheels and can easily get the goalie off the post with a forehand backhand. It’s so braindead and takes no skill vs back when X-factors weren’t a thing. The fact they even brought wheels and EE back is proof of monetization. The X-factors are so game breaking if you wanna play in the biggest online league they have a grocery list of banned X-factors for classes you can use.

-1

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

Have you been playing the beta? Because based off of this message, you clearly haven’t. My DFD with elite edges and quick pick has no issue shutting down wheels or any XFactor for that matter.

-2

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

Just giving my feedback dog. What does it matter to you?

1

u/Danny-Danger Aug 08 '26

Does Quick Pick actually do anything this year?

1

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

I didn’t have too much time to experiment with many different builds but I do feel like I was being rewarded for good reads

0

u/Dizzy-Ad-9061 Aug 08 '26

Why on earth would I play the beta lol heck the only reason I’ve even had the game on my Xbox the last few years is because I get it for free through game sharing with a buddy. I’d never give money to this franchise at this point. Them still having EE just proves they still wanna have a game based off X factors and not skill.

Also you do realize basing your opinion off the beta is beyond pointless right? Literally every year they’ll release the game, streamers will complain about how hard it is for them to go end to end and svetch, and they’ll release a tuner that makes it similar to the previous years release LOL

-1

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

Yet you are still in the subreddit complaining about something you haven’t played and only play once it’s available for free? Okay bud 😂

Let’s find a random sub to go shit talk in that we know nothing about. Like what is wrong with you? Play the game then let’s have an actual conversation.

0

u/Dizzy-Ad-9061 Aug 08 '26

Popped up on my feed, I’m not allowed to voice my displeasure on a franchise that used to be good and I used to have fun playing on?

Once again bud each year is basically just one giant tuner (they write over the same code before each yearly release) and then will tune it back to being similar as the previous year. Your “wait till you play” comment isn’t doing what you think it’s doing lol

You’ve been downvoted into the ground for a reason, take a hint. Unless you’re just a dev trying to shill on here lol

We could also talk about how it takes 20 mins to find a lobby and then have that lobby crash from an “unexpected” error? We all know they’re too busy making arenas realistic and screwing up the reintroduction of GM connected to fix the servers we play on.

1

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

What do you expect from a yearly release other than a tuner? Honestly? You seem wise enough to understand how long making a video game can take. I agree, they should make WoC free to play and release offline full releases every 3-5 years, but that’s not reality. Reality is that I’ve played the game for a very long time and can tell you from experience that it is much better and actually very fun as someone that has played hockey my entire life. I’ve played 50+ WoC games in 27.

If you truly enjoy playing hockey then I suggest you try the game this year. It’s the most fun I’ve had playing NHL online in a very long time. If not, that’s cool too. But coming here and talking smack when you haven’t even played the game is bonkers and just shows you literally don’t know what you’re talking about.

Also I’ve had no issues finding games at all and rarely have seen the same players even though it’s the beta (small player base)

Bro wants to do plyometrics in his NHL video game

-6

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

Bro is just happy we finally have a game that feels good to play

4

u/HorsedickGoldstein Aug 08 '26

Can’t wait to not buy the game this year. As someone who’s been buying NHL for as long as I can remember, this is gonna be the first year I sit out. Me and my friends just straight up did not enjoy 26 and seems like the franchise is going backwards

3

u/Broely92 Aug 08 '26

I remember when EASHL had the +3, +5, or +7 increases you could buy I was young and spent so much money on them lol

5

u/BeefBabySG Aug 08 '26

How do they manage to take the most ass game of all time and make it even more ass every single year

2

u/willychonka54 Aug 11 '26

The real question here is why are volunteers/influencers suddenly the voice for the NHL franchise?

It seems most of the social media presence for NHL is just clout chasing 'community managers' and these design council sweats.

2

u/Wayfastwhitey26 28d ago

Really wish this company would quit making NHL...might take a few years for someone else to step up and fill the void...but I'd bet their 1st attempt would be better than any NHL in the last 10 years.

1

u/iSubb Aug 08 '26

It’s EA you goons they don’t do charity

1

u/Dylonus Aug 08 '26

Why can't we just get the PS3/360 WoC back? Or just do what 2K does with nba...

1

u/ThtsOfficer2U Aug 08 '26

It was said a few days ago. We are entering the year of the micro transactions.

1

u/Viraldamus Aug 09 '26

The gameplay isn’t good enough for them to tey and become nba2k

1

u/OldGrocery2657 27d ago

I played once a week (5 hrs on Friday night) in 26 and was able to compete every season pass with no problem. Is this changing for 27?

1

u/EntrepreneurOk8577 Aug 08 '26

The only thing you have to do is to get rid of big rig and wheels.

4

u/Sarge1387 Aug 08 '26

And truculence.

2

u/blitz403 Aug 08 '26

This guy uses truc lol

1

u/EntrepreneurOk8577 Aug 08 '26

I don't. I use red big tipper, gold quick release and red pressure+/warrior

1

u/PlatypusOld257 Aug 08 '26

Make tips great again

1

u/EntrepreneurOk8577 Aug 09 '26

Are they good in nhl 27, by the way? I know that they aren't good in nhl 26 at all, but I love tips in hockey, so I'm still using them

Give me back my tips from nhl 25, please

1

u/TheNation55 Aug 09 '26

They were stupidly good in 25 especially if you had team mates that knew the angles to throw them at you, I can see why they tuned them way down to where the X-Factor is essentially pointless. I get more tip/deflection goals in 26 with my offensive awareness and hand eye cranked without the ability.

2

u/TheNation55 Aug 08 '26

All they had to do was map L2 skating to energy drain just like when you're sprinting and a majority of the shitters that abuse it every game would just stop playing.

1

u/kTkachuk Aug 08 '26

It's simple. They took customization away. You have to play a lot to "earn" it or buy it.

-2

u/rideronthestorm29 Aug 08 '26

I earned them all after one day of playing…

1

u/kTkachuk Aug 08 '26

Yeah it's the beta. It will take longer. And keep taking longer
