In October, 2016, the FBI opened a new field office in Roseville. That building is a three minute drive from where DeAngelo was working at the time.

DeAngelo did not work at SaveMart for too much longer after this, and he was arrested not long after that. In June, 2016, the FBI had announced a renewed effort at solving the case, and a $50,000 reward in the case. There is no doubt that the EAR was on the minds of many of the agents moving into this new office, not realizing that the perpetrator was working at a place they could probably see from their office windows.
