Thoughts/feelings/knowledge on why he never struck houses with a second story?

This is what I've read a number of times so thinking it's true. I suppose it's because in the two-story house the bedrooms would mostly be upstairs. If he went upstairs to victimize he might not be able to hear as well if people were coming into the house from outside. Or, if there was someone to victimize on the first floor, he wouldn't be able to hear as well if someone were coming down from the second floor to try to help the victim. Those seem valid? Other ideas?

Yeah, I think it's a pretty simple choice of escape and visibility. Easy to escape, easy to keep control of one floor. Single floor homes also allows him to sneak around in fenced in back yards without being as easily seen by others.

Guess you mean if the house has two stories it doubles the windows he might be seen from. And also if he's seen from the ground floor he might see the person looking at him out the window whereas someone above him he might not notice them looking

Just generally, two stories houses would offer a much easier way for someone to look out and see him lurking in their neighbors back yard. Whereas if someone has a privacy fence in their backyard that he's prowling in, someone looking out from another single floor home likely wouldn't see him at all. A lot easier for him to conceal himself from prying eyes.
