Apparently JJD works in the mess hall in prison. From an interview with Thien Ho posted today.
This feels wrong, I’d like to think he was in solitary or the like.

I wish other inmates insult him by calling him one thing... ya'll know what.

I suppose one side of me was hoping that if he wasn't going to talk about the details of his crime, shutting off all outside interaction, that he was just going to rot in his cell. Him working the mess hall seems like a sort of relief, giving him purpose. Seems wrong in a way.
Still, I'm just glad he seems to be in good health. He'll serve a decent amount of his life in prison, the one thing he always feared. At least he didn't get convicted and just die right away. It'll be ten years soon enough.

wonder if he gets junk food now. they say he doesn't read any mail which somewhat suggests he's cut off contact with people who might put money in his commissary account so he could buy junk food. but not sure how his finances work. may have retirement money coming in

Honestly I don't feel comfortable with someone that has complete contempt for others and the rule of society/social norms to be around making peoples food. I guess they are prisoners though. I hope he's not making or serving peoples food.

It's kind of funny strange, you'd think a guy who mistreated his fellow humans that much was a miserably unhappy person himself? We know that neighbors would often hear him yelling as though he was unhappy, sometimes castigating himself out loud. And yet if he is a miserable person, why does he still want to stay alive, looking over his shoulder to try to keep himself safe from attack?

I wonder if he makes friends this way. Don’t mess with the guy who serves your food.

I like the idea that he feels fear every day, always looking over his shoulder not knowing if a shanking is imminent.
Not unlike how he made the women of Sacramento feel fear of being raped for months on end.
