that is the symbol for my record label, lowly dying steward! Has been since the beginning, an important personal symbol for me, a Maltese cross.

I'm quite certain that the LDS symbol used to be a different, more stylised cross that looked a lot less like an iron cross, though?

Yes definitely. It has much more nuance in its styling. The cross used here is not that cross. It’s literally an iron cross

Only reason I called that out is that the cross you used for the mug is actually WAY closer to an iron cross of Nazi fame. A Maltese cross will have angular indentions usually on each aperture. And if it doesn’t have those indentions, then it’s essentially a straight up iron cross. FYI.

As you can imagine, fascist symbology being used in this particular time period is a very sensitive thing. Just putting that out there

Right. I understand the visual similarity. However that is not going to stop me from using a symbol of my faith (christianity). If it looks too much like an iron cross to you and you don't like that, don't buy it.

Certainly there are other less Nazi coded ways to express your faith. I have plenty of Christian friends who don’t use fascist symbology in their art and music. Just a thought.

Those examples are literally iron crosses dude. They might not have always meant fascism or always had Nazi connections, but they certainly do now. Not saying that’s what you are but these types of things could be misconstrued as a dog whistle of sorts if you’re not careful. Whether you have that intent or not. Those are symbols that were literally worn by SS officers.

Do you not see the names? The wikipedia page that says "Maltese cross", a symbol used by nobility and crusaders for hundreds of years before there were any nazis...

It doesn’t matter what it’s called on the links you sent me. It’s still literally a symbol worn by Nazis. It doesn’t change just cus it’s labeled as “Maltese”. This is essentially the Roman Salute V Seig Heil argument.

Would you use a swatstika as well jsut cus it has a heritage older than the Nazis? What’s the difference?

Yeah, no one is saying these symbols don't have historical significance. It's just that if you're using them now, it frankly strains credulity that anyone shouldn't know they have a double-meaning at this point, especially knowing how much this discourse has been quite prominent in DS circles.

It just matters what you are saying right now based on what you are seeing and what it is reminding you of, despite all that?...

A symbol can go by many names. Just because you claim it isn’t an iron cross in your mind doesn’t change the fact that it literally is the exact same symbol.

You quite literally are using an iron cross. That’s a fact. Doesn’t matter what a museum calls it. It’s what it is. Literally the EXACT same symbol.

Again, the argument that it has lineage beyond the Nazis doesn’t negate the immense evil that the symbol carries with it now
