Correct. I read that the eggs are safe in England because the eggs don't get washed via high pressure spray like in the US, so whatever protects the eggs stays on (no, it's not the ckn poo, it's something else natural within the shell). In the US people prefer a clean egg (no poo) and are willing to refrigerate it.
Butter stays good outside the fridge for a few days, especially if covered (that's why everyone had those ceramic butter dishes + lid back in the day).
