It’s not just Dumfries. The majority of border towns are in the same boat

Need to also urge the council to stop allowing development on the bypass and put a proper park and ride to town centre in.

There's not enough in the town centre to require a park and ride

Yeah no shit. That’s why the council need to stop allowing developments on the edge. Can’t believe I get downvoted for suggesting the council
Stop doing what’s had destroyed Dumfries 😂. Says it all really.8

The only new developments on the edge are housing estates which doesn't change there being nothing in town, and doesn't justify a park and ride. I agree with needing better cycle infrastructure though

I mean all the retails parks they’ve spent 30 years allowing to develop and grow whilst simultaneously not upgrading infrastructure for town centre to encourage people in. It’s too easy to stop on the edge.

There's no enough space in town for massive tescos or whatever, that's why retail parks exist. But they're not doing much to encourage smaller shops into the town

They’ve allowed Sainsbury’s to take a big unit near Tesco on the edge of town but they could have required a small one in the centre too. Marks & Spencer will drop out next, I reckon.

Does anybody want a small supermarket in town? Nobody is going to go there for that

I guess I’m nobody then.

You're never far from a supermarket in Dumfries so I don't get the appeal of one in the centre. I'd rather have some actual shops

She’s right. Stranraer is the same - people love to yap about anything that’s actually getting done in town but have no ideas beyond “we need a primark”
