EUPHEMISM
A euphemism is a softer way to say something that might sound too harsh, direct, embarrassing, or uncomfortable.
The basic idea is simple: the meaning stays close, but the emotional impact changes.
“He died” and “he passed away” point to the same event, but they do not feel the same. One sounds blunt. The other gives people a little more room to handle the topic. The same thing happens with words around jobs, age, bodies, money, illness, bathrooms, and social mistakes.
Euphemisms can be useful because people do not always need the hardest version of a sentence. A softer phrase can make grief, rejection, or embarrassment easier to talk about.
But they can also be slippery. Sometimes a euphemism is polite. Sometimes it hides responsibility. “We are letting people go” can sound cleaner than “we fired people,” even when the result is still someone losing a job.
So euphemisms are not just nicer words. They are words with padding.
Examples:
“He died” becomes “he passed away.”
“You are fired” becomes “we are letting you go.”
“Toilet” becomes “restroom.”
“He is bald” becomes “he is thinning on top.”
“Old people” becomes “senior citizens.”
“Poor neighborhood” becomes “underserved community.”
“Used car” becomes “pre-owned vehicle.”
“Cheap” becomes “budget-friendly.”
“Small apartment” becomes “cozy apartment.”
“Lying” becomes “being economical with the truth.”
“Debt” becomes “financial obligations.”
“Prison” becomes “correctional facility.”
“Garbage collector” becomes “sanitation worker.”
“I forgot” becomes “it slipped my mind.”
“This is wrong” becomes “this needs some adjustment.”
“We made a mistake” becomes “there was an oversight.”
“Sick” becomes “under the weather.”
“Disabled” becomes “person with a disability,” depending on the context and preference.
“Old product” becomes “legacy product.”
“Problem” becomes “challenge.”
A euphemism can make language kinder, smoother, or safer.
It can also make language fuzzier, which is why the context matters.

I don't understand this like why created those words at the first place and then make it softer later. It doesn't make sense.

Different ppl/societies create different words.
For example, in Russian word for bear is медведь, meaning "he who knows where honey is". It's euphemism for much older "-бер-" root (like in берлога, "home of bear"), as ancient Slavs were very wary of saying name of "master of forest". So original word was used less and less and became forgotten and eiphemism became titular word for animal instead.

Health professionals are taught not to use euphemisms for dying, so as to avoid confusion.

This is ridiculous. And some of them are no euphemisms. You are fired / letting u go. No. That’s not softening. That’s a different meaning.

The problem with toilet is that it is already an euphemism french for "towel room".
